Potent! Excellent quality hing
This stuff is great! It stinks, but it's supposed to. It seems very fresh and full of flavor. I can no longer have onions or garlic and learned that hing is a substitute for those flavors. It's not exactly the same, but it offers a savory and somewhat pungent hint of garlic and onion that helps add depth to my recipes. You only need a PINCH of this stuff so don't shake it in. There is a learning curve. But it works great once you get the hang of it. I'm very happy with the quality.

Great savory spice!
This is a great product but you have to be careful on how much you use cuz it's very strong just the tiniest pinch can give you the Savory taste of onion and garlic. if you have to avoid those things this is a good replacement.😋

Tastes good it you have to cook it.
I think it must be something that has to be cooked. It was great added to the oil when cooking fish. But added as a garlic substitute to guacamole basically ruined the whole bowl. It didn’t taste like garlic at all in the guacamole. Now I know.

Great garlic and/or onion replacement
This is perfect for someone with sensitivities to garlic or onion or histamine intolerance. You need very little. Only a pinch. It is very strong! Make sure you close the jar after using due to the pungent smell. I’m so glad I found this stuff since I can no longer cook with garlic or onions.

Substitute for garlic and onion, but smell is way different
I believe this is a high quality product that is exactly as described. My wife needs a low-fodmap diet, and her food chart say avoid onion and garlic, and substitute hing to flavor recipes. I guess we aren't cosmopolitan enough to appreciate the aroma that is involved in cooking with hing. I would like to use it more, because I thought the food tasted fine, but it took awhile to air out the kitchen.

It’s awful
Horrible Tried it once on chicken. Couldn’t eat it. Threw it out!!! The spice. Not all of the chicken, just cut off the part with that nasty spice!! Don’t do it.

A fun new addition to my spices collection
This is my first encounter with asafetida, so I can't really say if this is the best. What I can say however, is that I like it a lot. In lower concentrations it has an intense garlic-ish or onion-ish aroma while not being as acrid or spicy. It's as if someone took all the spiciness out of some garlic while somehow preserving only the aroma; it's super weird but in a good way. In higher concentrations the aroma and flavor turns into something that resembles pine sap, but every time it's diluted in my mouth (like when I'm drinking a cup of water) it turns back into the curious garlicky aroma. TL;DR, strong garlicky aroma while having no spiciness at all. It also didn't leave any unpleasant aftertaste. Definitely worth a try.
