Buckwheat/ Cover crop in unused garden area
Very high germination rate. Great FAST cover crop. Scattered seeds and raked them in. Got a rain the next day. Grew thick 2-3' tall and shaded out all but a few stubborn lambs quarter plants. Never had to water. (Had a short spell of hot and dry weather and began to wilt until the next rain hit.) We've had a rainy cool summer with low 90's so it happened to be a good year for it. Chickens love the flower buds and seeds. One can add cowpeas to the mix for a good nitrogen addition to your soil and more biomass for your fall veggie crop. I'll try that next time.

Beneficial For Bees & As A Garden Cover Crop
The buckwheat seed germinated well, even in NC's hot & dry late summer conditions. The buckwheat grew rapidly and flowered in just a few weeks. I planted the seed in August as a late season garden cover crop and as a source of pollen & nectar for my bees. Within the last couple of days the flowers have started to mature and this morning I saw pollinators, including my honeybees starting to work the flowers. If the bees are benefited by the buckwheat flowers as I hope they will be, the seed will earn the 5 star rating.

fast growing
This crop came up quickly and filled in nice. Just starting to blossom. The bees will love it!

Great for use as a cover crop, fast-germinating and hardy
Great cover crop. Used it to enrich a small bed for crucifers. 100% germination rate for me, quick to grow (mine came up within a few days), hardy, will grow anywhere, even in inferior soil. Great for chop-and-drop, just do it within 10 days of flowering. Excellent price.

Our bees love it!
We threw this seed out at the end of August here in mid-Georgia and it is in full bloom Labor Day weekend. We did not till this in but simply spread it over an area that had just been bush hogged between two rows of bee hives. There are more bees (honey bees and others) gathering nectar on the buckwheat than on any other source. This is a crucial time of year for bees as they need to store nectar as honey to get through the winter, and there are fewer resources for them than in spring. Buckwheat is supposed to bloom for 20 days, so this should set our hives up for a healthy spring, providing we don't get an early frost. We have ordered a second bag to sow -- it takes such a short time from planting to blooming that we are fairly confident that it will be of use before we see cooler temperatures. Next year, we will plant a larger area at the end of August.

Not what expected
I'm not sure if I planted this the wrong time of year. It started to flower then seems dead. I'll try 1 more time in spring

Nice clean seeds
Nice clean seeds, well packaged and delivered on time. They sprouted in three days and grew like crazy. 2 feet tall in just a few weeks. Frost has killed them now but they are doing a great job as a fall ground cover and will be good organic matter when I till them in.
