Prozap 1499540 Garden & Poultry Dust For Insects, 2 Lb is the perfect dust for when the chickens begin to itch. It’s gentle, helps them to stop pulling their feathers out, and inspires them to feel less itchy and more like laying the eggs they’re famous for. We live on a farm and I love raising laying hens. Their eggs are like little tokens of affection they offer up daily for those of us who know the difference in a farm fresh egg and a store bought egg. The hens – the ladies – are amazing workers for any farm. They don’t hesitate to lay more than we can eat and when they feel down, we notice and want to heal them with whatever medication or method we can. I just noticed a few days ago that the hens were starting to look a little frail. They were losing feathers, or more likely, pulling their feathers out because they were experiencing bug problems. This dust is a easy and practical way to help the hens feel better. It’s not at all difficult to apply… just sprinkle a measure across their bodies and around their home. Then, as expected, they begin to feel better about their lives. They stop the feather pulling and begin to look more like the happy hens who I am so delighted to care for. The Bad: the dust does have a odor and it’s not a good idea to let it get in your nostrils or on your skin. Always wash after using. The Best: the dust works well as a hen defender and can also be used to protect garden plants from insect invasion. Buy it if you’re like me and needing something good to sprinkle on the hens or the garden. It works well at defeating insects who can invade your hen house or your garden. Easy to use, helped my chickens with bugs, I applied at night when the girls were calm. its easy to apply. I sprinkled the powder all along their roosting area and other places they like to sit!

Really got rid of squash beetles

The can of dust was shipped in a padded enveloped. The can inside was crushed and all of the powder had dumped into the envelope. I immediately ordered a return, and the seller promptly put a new can in the mail... Which arrived in the same condition: padded envelope, crushed, with all of the contents dumped into the envelope (covering other items in the package too! Yikes!) I don't want to cause a hardship on the company, as they allowed me to keep the first can, so I'm not doing a second return, but I do hope they pack in a box from here out. Also, this is working wonders with the fire ant invasion on my property! It takes a few applications, but eventually they're gone!

Had Northern fowl mites in henhouse in June 2015; knew they would spread quickly and multiply, if they hadn't already. Have always checked my hens on a weekly basis [or more often] for lice/mites and had not spotted any on chickens (35 hens), but when I reached into nest box where momma hen was trying to hatch out a dozen eggs at the back of the coop about two weeks ago, within seconds the tiny gray-colored mites climbed onto my hand and began crawling around. Knew I had to do something quickly about the mites because they can cause death to chickens due to anemia, and their biting must be miserable for the birds to endure. I ordered and kept a canister of this Prozap Garden & Poultry Dust on-hand for just such a time when I'd need it; that same day I discovered mites, my spouse and I completely cleaned out the chicken coop bedding/nest materials/floor material (straw/shavings/hay) and gently dusted momma and all around the interior floor of her nest box without removing all nesting material from under her as we didn't want to disturb her while hatching out eggs; I shop-vac'd EVERYTHING else from top to bottom. Sprayed dishwashing liquid and water mixture with a large back-pack-type wand-handled sprayer, applying the wet mixture to all walls, into nests, all the woodwork, window sills, doorways, around the base of the floor and all over the cement floor -- simply EVERYWHERE. Put on a face mask and donned some rubber-palmed gardening gloves and sprinkled this garden & poultry dust lightly onto damp roost poles and into cracks/crevices around windows and nest boxes and thoroughly rubbed it into boards everywhere I could reach. It seems to cling nicely to damp surfaces. I then put brand new nesting materials into boxes and lightly onto the surface of the floor. Also dusted all chickens as they roosted that evening (the friendlier the hens, the easier it is to apply powder to them). Happy to report that the mites didn't return on day #10, and to prove it to myself, I stuck my hand into the momma hen's nest box and held it there for about 1 minute, withdrew my hand and found zero mites crawling on my bare skin. As recommended, we repeated the process again on day #10, even though we feel the first application did the trick. Since then, momma hatched out 5 chicks and she has been moved to a new, clean nest box of the coop; her 21-day-old dirty nest box was cleaned out, sprayed with soap/water mixture, rubbed with a light sprinkling of this poultry dust while the woodwork was damp, and new nest box material was placed inside the box. NOTE: My neighbor who is at least 20-30 acres away from me reported losing 3 hens in three days due to Northern fowl mites, due to severe anemia. I'm no veterinarian or poultry specialist, but I do believe the key is to start treatment early and be sure the henhouse is thoroughly cleaned-out, dust your chickens, and repeat the process as recommended on canister of dust. Once you've got the mites under control, your birds will be happier and their combs & wattles will return to bright red and they will lay better! Good luck! It's hard work to do the job correctly, but well worth it.
