I finally pulled the trigger and bought the OutEquipPro Summit 2 Rooftop AC with heat pump for my DIY camper van. And let me tell you OutEquipPro did not disappoint. Honestly, this thing leveled up my build. The heat pump is clutch for mild cold nights, while the inverter tech keeps power draw efficient so I can run it straight off my battery system without stressing it. Perfect for my off-grid setup and 500-watt solar array. This was one of the biggest upgrades to comfort at an affordable price yet optimal efficiency. This unit is exactly what I’ve been looking for: — Cost effective — DC power compatibility (12V/24V/48V) — Lightweight (43 lbs) — Sleek and low-profile (just over 6” tall) — Whisper quiet (40 dB) — Efficient cooling (10,000-11,000 BTU) and heating (4,500 BTU) for year-round comfort — Easy installation and wiring Installation was surprisingly straightforward. The whole process took me about 4 hours. 1. Remove ceiling panels 2. Cut roof opening (minimum 14.1” x 10.3”) 3. Attach waterproof gasket around opening 4. Add roof reinforcement 5. Mount unit and secure with base plate 6. Apply self-leveling exterior sealant 7. Route wiring 8. Reinstall ceiling panels 9. Replace interior cover panel

Above all, their customer service is amazing! I purchased the 12V unit as I thought it was both 12V or 24V compatible and the unit would detect the input voltage and change accordingly. When I got it installed I realized that was not the case and needed specifically the 24V one for my battery bank. I emailed and they got back to me within a day. Since I had already cut a hole in my van roof, they just shipped out the 24V one and let me send back the 12V one free of charge at my leisure when I got the 24V one installed. Amazing service! This is going on a 159 WB Ram Promaster. So far I am very happy with the unit. I got the heated option and it seems like it's going to work very well. The AC is actually cooler than I thought it was going to be and keeps the van cool even in full sun. Installation was very easy. I ended up routing the wiring through the return duct instead of drilling another hole in the roof and I'm glad I did. It fit perfectly once I got my ceiling installed. I opted to not use the large white shroud as I liked the look of the black metal plate better than the white. If you don't already have a hole, I would cut to the 14x9 dimensions. If you cut a 14x14, you have to slide the unit back a little bit so that the drain holes miss the gasket. Not a huge deal but I didn't realize that when cutting the hole. I used PowerGrab marine underneath the gasket just to make sure there would be no water that got in around it. The noise level is very appropriate for what the unit is. You can definitely hear it on top when it is in turbo mode, but that's just an initial blast to cool the space down and I don't think would be needed constantly. I'm located in the South East so i've been able to test it on 90-95 degree days. I agree with other reviews that the heat isn't a solution for arctic camping. It's warm and knocks the chill out of the air, but it isn't going to keep the van at 72 degrees when it is 20 outside. I really like how low profile it is. I didn't want a giant unit on my van, especially since it was going very near the back as my solar panels take up most of the rest of the front. The dometic, rtx, etc brands are a good 2-3 inches taller than this one and more expensive. So far, the unit seems very efficient. I have a 24V 200ah battery bank with 870W of solar and another ~250W when I am driving from the alternator. It runs well within that if it's a decently sunny day, even without the alternator input. Overall very pleased with the purchase.

Installation is relatively simple for anyone with modest experience and instructions are surprisingly accurate and helpful for different configurations. Pay attention to all of the steps. Read them through before you start the install. The air conditioner comes with about 15 feet of 6AWG wire and fuse. They offer multiple methods for routing the wire. I tested the fuse and it only had a .03 voltage drop which is a good sign. I ran it for four hours on the first day in South Carolina heat and high humidity and didn't have any drips inside. I wonder if a couple of reviews that mentioned that issue didn't pay attention to the drain hole locations and offset measurement in the instructions. On low it blows nice and cool, even on a 96 degree day. It uses surprisingly little power and is quiet on lower settings. Obviously, it can use max power (around 600) watts and makes more noise on higher settings and that is normal. I was most impressed with the the value for the cost. The components all seem engineered and built well. The Bluetooth remote app was one of the easier ones to set up. I will use this model again on the next van build.

I recently installed the 12V 10,000 BTU Rooftop RV Air Conditioner, and overall, it’s a solid unit with great cooling power, especially for off-grid setups running on 12V systems. It cools quickly and runs efficiently, which is a huge plus when you're trying to manage power usage on the road or at a campsite. However, I have to be honest about the installation process—it wasn’t the smoothest experience. Removing the screws from the lid to access the panel below was more difficult than it needed to be. The placement and tightness of the screws made them hard to reach and even harder to remove without risking damage. And once you finally get to the panel, be prepared: the connectors holding the lid on are incredibly fragile. It felt nearly impossible to remove the lid without breaking at least one of them, which was frustrating considering how frequently you might need to get back in there for wiring or adjustments. That said, once everything was in place and running, the performance of the unit made up for the hassle. It's quiet, effective, and doesn’t draw a ton of power, making it a great fit for RVers looking to stay cool without draining their batteries. Just be ready to take your time (and maybe have some replacement connectors on hand) during install.

Amazing product for the price, it works as expected. Easy to install and has a sleek design. The low profile size made it possible for an abundance of solar on the roof This 12v unit replaced an older Coleman Mach 3 which was roughly 90 or so pounds. The lighter weigh (almost half) made it much easier to complete a solo install. The new 12v is also much quieter then the old previous 110 volt ac unit. The installation were straight forward and un-complicated. The instructions are printed in large font with detailed illustrations. I installed the ac on my own over the course of 2 nights. Working a little bit each night. One thing is I wish they offered a bigger variety of hardware for those roofs that are a little bit thicker then others I have a 600ah lifepo4 system charging off of 2200 watts of solar. The Summit 2 on Eco mode draws around 16amps so this easily lets me run the unit throughout the night and charge back up during the day. The variable speed compressor is an absolute game changer for anyone looking to conserve as much battery as they can. Very little power draw compared to the previous 110v unit. I opted for the heat pump also. Which definitely takes the chill out on a chilly day. Highly recommend this lo profile ac unit for anyone off grid trying to run off battery power

I had heard about these being awesome from a Facebook group I am part of and didn't want to spend the money, but I finally broke down. I wanted a reliable way to run AC off grid where I could trust leaving my dog in the camper while I am off climbing for a few hours (I installed a temp alarm that texts me if things go sideways). The unit was really easy to install. For my installation I did have to cut the bolts shorter, but that was no big deal. Everything seems to be of high quality. I really think that this is a great AC unit. I can't speak to the reliability yet since I just installed it, but it cools really well, is quiet, and I totally recommend it. I think that for the money this is a great value and if I would have installed it sooner I could have saved money and stress on solar and batteries to run my 120V system. Also it freed up a bunch of space on my roof for more solar if I need it.

I replaced a standard powered vent in the sleeping area of our 31' Class B+ motorhome. The AC install was very easy; the inside panel was more difficult ( getting the screws lined up and the panel installed) than the roof part. I routed the power cables down behind the refrigerator and down to the underside of the coach where I have 832 Ah of battery. The length of cables supplied were 3' short of my battery bus bar, so I added 4 ga wire to bridge that gap. The AC has cooled very well in 100 degree weather, during a test run of a full day. It is quiet and provides very good cooling, especially with the sleeping area cordoned off by doors. I have 1000watts of solar on the roof. I'll be testing how long I can run the AC only by solar, later in the summer and report back. The mid $700 price was a good buy. The remote controlled everything easily. Even though I have plenty of lights in teh area, I will probably be using this light.

Unit actively leaks. Because of the location of the vent fan, the unit even in light rain will collect water along the radiator that will over time drip down into the cabin. Blindingly stupid design flaw that could have been easily solved by not running a shroud over the top of the fan or shipping the unit with a cover. In addition, the design is smaller than most rv acs so good luck finding a 3rd party cover. I’ve literally had to tape the top closed to make it through the trip. Super annoying as the unit itself is actually well built despite something that should have not missed quality control.
