I tried using my basic plunger and it did not work at all. After reading reviews, I decided to try this one. It works very well for odd shaped holes. I was Leary when I got it, but it does work. **Q: Is the back of the base open so that the "gray water" from the brush evaporates rather than collect to form a fetid, smelly, unsanitary pool?** A: Yes, it is open. I give the brush a light tap on the rim of the toilet to reduce clinging droplets before returning it to the base. No unsanitary pool for me, and don't think evaporation is much of a factor. **Q: Does the head unscrew?** A: The current 2018 version I just purchased does not seem to unscrew. I want to replace the rubber head with a better one, but Ive tried twisting to unscrew and also pulling on it but neither works. Can anyone tell me how the head comes off, and if so can a standard screw on head be used? **Q: Is the holder easy to clean/disinfect after water has dripped down onto it and dried?** A: Yes. There is a removable portion of the holder which collects the water.
