This works specifically for data storage PC cards
This PCMCIA adapter was what I needed to read a mini-spinning hard drive that packs into a PC card. I wish it could read/test other types of PC Cards, but for cards with the ATA designation ONLY, this works great. I ended up returning it because I need another adapter type that can do more testing, but otherwise would recommend this for ATA-based storage cards.

Worked for me on MacOS
Saw all the bad reviews and took a chance. It worked for me to read some old PCMCIA cards using MacOS Sequoia. Plug and play with no setup/drivers, etc. FWIW, I put the card into the reader, then connected the USB cord. I did not try to write the cards; I don't think it is capable of that.

Not for ata type 3
Guess it would do for what it is made for. Won't read my type iii (3) card.

Does not work out of the box
Plugged in to both my Windows 11 PC and my new Lenovo Tablet. Tried 6 different ATA cards that I had in safe storage. Computers recognized the device however not one card was recognized. Was going to return it however I dropped my bag on it and broke the housing. Will find another product to get my old data off my PCMCIA ATA cards.
