One is perfect two can be tricky connecting.
The sound on the speaker is absolutely amazing. The app for the speaker however needs a lot of work. The sound was so good I immediately bought a second one the day I got the first one so that I could utilize the "party connect" feature which allows you to connect up to 100 of these. The instructions on how to do it are as clear as mud. I've been able to get the speakers to connect two times, every time you turn on the speaker if you're going to connect a second speaker you have to go through the process each time. It took me about 25 minutes the first time in about 18 minutes the second time. The key is to only connect one speaker to your phone or tablet via Bluetooth, then hit the connect button on the first speaker, then turn on the second speaker without connecting it to Bluetooth hit the connect button on the second speaker. I had to go through the process several times including deleting the app removing the connection from my iPad and starting over. If you're only going to get one of these speakers I can tell you it's absolutely worth it the sound is amazing especially for its size. I bought this for when I travel with my iPad to have better sound quality playing movies and it does not disappoint. It gets about 12 hours of battery time if you're using the sound enhancing ULT, otherwise you can get up to 25 hours which is not even advertised for the device if you turn off ULT, I will say though the sound quality drops dramatically by turning off ULT. The build quality seems really nice, it feels like a solid piece of equipment that won't fall apart in your hands. The only complaint I have is the connection of multiple speakers.

The search is over!
For every soul out there, there is a need for things to work to your satisfaction. Take Bluetooth speakers. Some folks just need some noise. Get a speaker turn it on, pair it with your phone. Lovely MONO fidelity. NO. I exclusively need a sound 'platform' that is to my satisfaction when I travel away from my home setup. I need *stereo* audio. I need to setup a pair of stereo speakers on the outdoor deck 20 feet apart at the cabin deep in the remotest part of the rural countryside. And listen to Aaron Copland in full stereo. Or Bartok. Or Stravinsky. Or anything, so long as it is in stereo. Using my phone OR my laptop. For years I had been struggling and cursing JBL for their lousy bluetooth software app. Enter Sony and the ULT Field 3. It's evident that Sony has the sense of what their target demographics: 1. A simple single speaker noise maker. or 2. that small number of folks who actually listen to the music they consume. And want to hear that stereo sound stage. Anywhere. You would think JBL would be in a similar vein, yet they seem to be going for the lowest common denominator. A mono boombox. Facts: 1. These speakers pair in STEREO without *any* app needed. Obviously this does require buying two of them. 2. The speakers pair in stereo with your phone OR your laptop/bluetooth computer. That is unheard of [at least to me] 3. The setup is so simple: pair one, then pair the other. 4. press the "stereo pair" button on each and you are done. 5. The setting persist through power cycles. 6. To switch from your phone to computer or vice versa is just the routine of 'forgetting' the device on one and connecting the other. To be able to setup a laptop with a VPN connection to my home network and be able to play any of my 30,000+ digital albums in the middle of nowhere is magical. And with barely any heavy lifting in terms of complexity. I'm so satisfied with these speakers, I'm now looking for the barest excuse to travel. Recommended.

The Sony ULT Field 3: The Sweet Spot
This is an amazing speaker. Although it is very portable, it does verge on being too big to carry around with you everywhere. I'm no audiophile, but this speaker sounds great to me. It carries a proper punch and the highs are nice and crisp. There is a noticeable difference in sound with the ULT mode off or on. You're going to want to keep it on if you want that rumbling bass sound, but there's enough boom with it off. I haven't dropped it and don't plan on doing so, but the rubber molding on each end feels sturdy and able to absorb a decent fall. The waterproof feature is nice in case you ever leave this speaker out in the rain by mistake or want to keep it near a pool. Battery life is great. I have not timed it, but the battery last for serval days with multiple hours of use per day. I'm confident the battery claims from Sony are accurate. The ULT Field 3 is the sweet spot if you want a speaker that can be your primary Bluetooth speaker as well as a portable option. Get it. Your neighbors might hate you, but your ears will love you.

PowerPoint Users: Buy the Sony Ult 3
I own the JBL Charge 6 and the Sony Ult 3. I primarily use both for PowerPoint presentations in small to moderately large rooms. Both have similar sounds, although I give a slight edge to the Sony. It has a good, out-of-the-box sound that balances bass, mids and highs when the Ult button is engaged. The JBL perhaps mixes a better sound using its EQ app, but it's important to remember that the mixing apps only work for cell phones, not the computer! As for appearance, the Sony Ult 3 offers a more professional and polished look with it box shape, black grill cloth and small Sony lettering. The football shaped JBL with its large logo on the front is more of a backyard party-looking kind of speaker. Thumbs up to the Charge 6 for allowing wired connection via the USB C port, something the Sony lacks. The Sony does, however, allow, the user to disable the "auto shutoff" feature, something the JBL does not permit. This is important to PP users who don't want audio shutting off midstream due to 10 minutes of speaker inactivity. The Sony 3 is now selling in the $150.00 price range on Amazon, 50 dollars cheaper that the fixed $199.00 that the JBL Charge 6 sells for everywhere. If you're a PowerPoint presenter, I recommend the Sony Ult 3.
