ViewSonic VA1653 16 Inch 1080p Portable Monitor, FHD IPS External Screen

I needed a second monitor at work because the old Dell I brought in won't connect to the new Asus all in one computer. I did not get the fancy "touch screen" type, just the regular version. I haven't taken this to work yet, but I've tested it out here at home on both my newer laptop and older-than-dirt PC. It was instantly detected and worked beautifully right from the start on both. I'm a little surprised that the manual it comes with it says nothing about anything. I guess that means it will just turn on when I plug it in (which it did), and will go off when I unplug it (which it also did). But there's apparently a battery in the thing, which means it has to charge somehow. If you're not using the USB C to USB C that comes with it, I'm not sure how you're supposed to charge it. I've gone ahead and purchased a USB C to USB 3.0 so I can plug it into my extended USB ported power bank. I'm hoping that will work as the ports on the work computer are full. Never ending drama. LOL Anyhoo, size is excellent, weight is almost non-existent it's so light. Picture is pretty darned good considering it looks exactly like the picture on my MSI gaming laptop. I'll have to update this review after I get it to work, but for now, I'm loving it!

I like this portable monitor overall. The screen resolution is solid for productivity tasks like documents, spreadsheets, and general work, and it performs well as a second monitor while working on the go. I wouldn’t recommend it for media consumption — colors and contrast are fine for work, but not something I’d choose for movies or entertainment. The built-in speakers work, but they wouldn’t be my first choice for audio. One small drawback is that I wish the USB-C cable were a bit longer, though it still works fine for my setup. Overall, it’s a reliable, portable second monitor that does exactly what I need for mobile productivity.

Bought 2 of these of my husband and I. We both work in tech and it is good when you are traveling and your work requires another screen. They are lightweight and hassle-free to connect to your laptop.

I bought this monitor to replace my broken ViewSonic VA1655 model. I broke the screen when overstuffing my backpack and going through the airport carelessly. It served me well in its time. I tried two other monitors, knock-off brands for half the price....buy half the quality too. In the end I decided to keep one as a backup and return the other one (you can read my other reviews to see how a monitor can drive you insane quickly). This new monitor, the ViewSonic VA1653 looks and works 98% identical. What difference I noticed is the built-in kickstand does not support vertical orientation (do not care) and the USB-C cable it came with was straight instead of the cool 90-degree one that my old ViewSonic came with (a little saddened by that). But hey, I paid about $30 less for this than the old one so who is to complain, right? Plugged in; hit the power button, and the screen came to life instantly. I could not be happier. The screen is just as bright, just as crisp (for my WFH needs), just as light....its like getting a new puppy after your best dog passes...its not exactly the same, but you love it immediately because of the familiarity to the old.

This is the 2nd one I've now ordered. I don't know if it is a seller issue, or the device issue, but neither one of them have worked. The first one didn't work with the C to C cord. Then I read there were all kinds of issues with the port. So I bought a C to Mini-HDMI. But you still have to use the C to charge it. It only worked intermitently. So I put in for an exchange, and got this one today. This one didn't come with the cord at all, and has smudges all over the screen. When I tried it with my existing cord, the screen doesn't turn on. So someone else already returned it once (box damaged with previous tape ripped off, missing cord, and smudges all over the screen)...and they still chose to send it to me. Either ViewSonic needs to fix these ports or the seller needs to make sure their stuff works before sending it to customers (and certainly, don't send used crap to people for the "new" price). I gave two chances, knowing things happen, but for this to be an issue two times is a problem. Device is garbage, unfortunately.

I will admit, the image is excellent, the speakers are laughably weak and lack the ability to link external speakers with Bluetooth or cable. That said I still managed to hook the monitor up to my old DAWs workstation. What can I say, I hate returning things.

Great value for 2nd monitor for home office or travel. You may need to purchase HDMI cord. Lightweight. Comes with protective sleeve that also doubles as xl mousepad.

Really like how portable this monitor is and that it works off the USB C port on my work laptop. The resolution at 1080p means I have to do some scrolling with our internal apps, but it works well and two monitors are still better than one. Some might prefer a higher refresh rate for day to day work and a bit more crispness for text. For the price and specs however I cannot find much to complain about. I also have been using it in Eco mode since it spends a lot of time being powered by the laptop on battery.

Great! Exactly what I was looking for, for my small server room. Light as a feather and thin, works as expected and makes it much easier to connect to the computer I need in a small space.

This is my 2nd monitor and had to return the first one due to compatibility Monitor is fine. Connected right away with my computer like a breeze. One star missing due to no hdmi cable provided, too bad
