Not bad
The story was interesting enough, held my interest. I liked Janek's sleuthing ability, and the characters were likable enough. There was a lot of back and forth between the murder victims, seemed to drag a bit. I will consider reading another Janek novel, but it's not on the top of my list at the moment. Did not care for all the lovey dovey girlfriend parts, just seemed added but not overly important to the story. Somehow she annoyed me.

Good, solid read
Designed to be more cerebral than for shock value even though the details of the homocide are specifically brutal. More coverage of the thought processes of the detectives than the murderer in this book which is an interesting perspective. Two cases at once so lots going on. I knew the Janek character from old TV movies, but now I'm interested in reading about some of the other characters developed by this author.

Super crime thriller
This is the first in a three-book series. Great plots and structure. Well researched. I read all three books in 4 days which should give you an idea

Old book with well written story
I enjoyed the made for TV movies about the Janek detective so I had a built in interest in Janek. This story is very well told. The old style detective work used to catch the murderer was awesome and Janek is so perfect as the tiring, still great mind of solving unusual crimes.

spell binding
The book really "creeped me out" in spots! Excellent idea for a murder mystery. I ordered the next book in the series and plan to read it soon. The writing is New York gritty and the detective seems real.

Average Read, Disappointed in Bayer's effort.
I read another of Bayer's books, "City of Knives" and found it to have quirky characters in an interesting venue which lead me to read "Switch". I was somewhat disappointed with this book as it was very formulaic and predictable. Bayer really wimped out at the climax of the book when it seemed he just wanted to finish and made the ending completely unbelievable.

A most unusual story. Lots of interesting twists and turns. Kept you guessing all the time. Have never read anything by this author before and will look for other books by him. Would highly recommend it.

Great complex storytelling!!!
Great read! I had read Wallflower years ago and loved Janek so I'm glad I went back to the beginning of the series to discover him all over again.
