Review: Best Brand in the market - I did a lot of research on the benefits of eating Sardines and this brand came on top. The product is first rate very tasty. Sardines is one of the best foods out there , very underrated but excellent for your health. Do not waste your money on cheap brands , Wild Planet Sardines are the best. Go and buy this brand.
Review: "Sardines" and (not quite what we thought they were) "Sardines". - Wiz Dood--you can't have looked very far because both "The Pilchard Works" and "Connetable"'s brand of sardine FILLETS are in extra virgin olive oil and have been for sale on line for a few years now! And by the way when selling sardines in Europe, unless the sardines are of European origin i.e. of the species sardina pilchardus, the manufacturers have to say where the fish originate from--Pacific, South Atlantic (South Africa) etc. Stock levels of European sardines are excellent and the fisheries in Cornwall, France and Portugal all have Marine Stewardship Council status as being sustainably managed. European sardines --Sardina pilchardus-- have always been rated as being the best tasting of the clupidae sub genus known as sardines with Pacific sardines and South African sardines come a close second. Because European sardines have been so highly regarded the name, the word "sardine" itself, on its own, can only be used on EU sold products if it is of the species sardine pilchardus. Some manufacturers who use other sub species of the same fish family have tried to disguise or mask the fact that the fish that they use is different with clever wording or claims. There are some good products out there which are not European sardines but there is also quite a lot of canned "sardine" rubbish on the market, not only in species used ---some are herrings, some are sprats and some are anchovies-- but also in the second quality, cheap processing used. 95% of what is on offer has been through a modern industrial canning process where the fish and ingredients are put in the tin raw and literally cooked in the can. Which is why some of them taste like boiled fish..... Traditional canning is very different and preserves and enhances the flavour. It is more labour intensive and so more expensive to produce but teh taste is very different. I mustn't say anymore because I have a pecuniary interest in that I am involved in the sardine---sardina pilchardus ---business!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: It states these are caught off the central California coast; however, the case I Recieved states can and process in Vietman. How does make sense?**
A: American labor in American facilities were earning an almost living wages. Some shops were also unionized which meant they would get medical benefits and retirement.
The factories were closed and all the jobs were shipped overseas, in this case, the communist North Vietnam where at the time, labor rate was 50c per day American money.
Sardines are hugely profitable for the fish mongers.
Per CIA Fact Book, the labor rates in Vietnam have increased and as of the last time I checked, they are making $1.50 per day.
Enjoy the benefits of modern colonialism and slavery.
It should be added that Communist Red China has also been shipping jobs to Vietnam. I mean why pay $5 an hour for skilled people when you can pay $1 per day. Plus there the whole working around US sanction thing.

**Q: Are they skinless and boneless?**
A: As of June 2019, the sardines that I received have no heads, no tails, no skin and I did not see any bones (although the bones might be there). They are "all meat" with olive oil.

**Q: is the can bpa free?**
A: I was able to go to the website www.wildplanetfoods.com and it does say that the wild sardines are packed in cans that are bpa free. You may check it for yourself. I am still not sure about the Wild Planet Tuna.

**Q: are these the whole fish - with heads, eyes, bones, tails, etc? the description says "whole portions" but just wanted to confirm. thanks.**
A: no heads, eyes, and tails. I think the bones are still there and the main source of calcium but you barely feel it.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excelente compra
*by M***A on 28 September 2025*

Excelente sabor de la sardina, no es fuerte, es ligero, para mi gusto está perfecta, ya que las sardinas con sabor fuerte no las toleraba. Las volveré a comprar. Me llegaron perfectas y muy rápido.
