They didn't eat it the first day
The bag is easy open pull tabs thankfully. I bought a 40 pound capacity plastic bin container at Ross and will pour this in there and add a scoop. The ducks were getting into the community colony cat food so I bought this to deter them. It did take 1 or more day for the ducks to adjust, they ignored these pellets and stalked the cat kibble so i had to mix them. They fished out only the cat kibble the first day. In the second day some adult duck ate these. These pellets are all beige and unscented so the ducks have to learn to eat them. I am going to mix in frozen peas soon. We have a lake and lots of baby ducks so I am creating three feed spots out of the parking lots and driveways sidewalks closer to the embankment. I bag up some into zip seal baggies to walk around with. I also have to fill water jugs and clean up messes they make on the sidewalks. It shipped in a cardboard box which I recycled. They keep mucking up the cat water bowls so I am going to provide them their own water bowls. Its a-lot of work. I am trying to keep them away from the porch and under our van and truck. The cats give them space and allow them to invade. So I try to feed the cats after dark or before dawn before the ducks are foraging. By sunrise the ducks are stalking the colonies. These mush down when exposed to rain. I’m going to buy some shallow stainless steel / aluminum round farm dishes to serve. Its a learning curve for them. They have to get used to it. It wasn’t an instant fix. Teenage ducks ignored so far.
