By Gok Wan - Through Thick and Thin: My Autobiography

A surprisingly good read, even for someone not a huge fan
I was never that big a fan of Gok Wan. I watched a few shows that he was in but I wouldn't have deliberately seeked out something because he was in it. I knew that he did a lot for women and their issues but I thought for s while he was a little too overexposed and I saw his face everywhere. My opinion has changed though after reading this book and I have even watched his cookery show for the first time since reading this book.I would recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of Gok or just wants to know a bit more about him. It has a very important message as well, particularly for those suffering from eating disorders and shows that while it seems that they never quite go away, that recovery is possible so long as you are mindful of the signs that you are slipping. Gok is always very open about his struggles through the book and often a refers back to what he has been through and those times where he felt he was slipping. One thing that I hadn't been expecting through this book was how passionate Gok is about his family and how much love he has for them. You can just feel the love pouring out of the pages when he talks about his parents or brother and sister. There are some photos included in this book which I thought were a nice touch, including some not flattering photos of Gok as a child as well as photos of when his anorexia was at the worst. I found the inclusion of these photos also meant that Gok isn't ashamed of how he was but it's clear to see that he's been through a lot and even though he has what is considered an enviable life now, he still has some demons and isn't afraid to bear his soul.As I said, I wasn't a big Gok fan but this book did go some way in changing my mind about him and while I'm certainly not a Gokette, I have a lot of admiration for him and I think that he has done a lot to help a lot of women in terms of confidence and that it seems that the overconfident persona that I always thought if when I thought if Gok hides the real man.I would recommend this book if you are interested in finding out more about Gok or just want something with a feel good story. I also feel that this book would help anyone who wants to find out a little more about eating disorders as Gok is very open about his struggles in this book.
