Excellent perspective of the life, message and significance of Jesus.

Phenomenal book! I was deeply involved in the Christian tradition. Leading bible studies and overseeing Women's Ministries. I left the church about 15 years ago. This book on Jesus did indeed resurrect my soul and made me fall in love with the Jesus I did not know. The true Jesus. I highly recommend it!

Excellent book. Presents the life of Christ as steps in our union with the divine. Written by a well known Zen Buddhist It focuses on The books of Thomas (not in the KJVB) Mathew and John from both a Buddhist and Christian perspective. This book would not please Evengelical or Fundamentalist Christian or many in mainstream Christian faiths as it sees God as emminant and rejects original sin. His viewpoint of humans relationship to God is very much like the concept of Buddhism that we are all Buddhas. He also looks at key players such as Pilate, Judas, Peter, and Mary Magdalene as archtypes elements of which we all share. I was a professor for 30 years and have not highlighted so much in a book since I was an undergrad. Read it slowly and carefully. The writing style is clear and direct. Truth in reviewing--I am a Quaker, Buddhist, Christian.

Fresh contemporary look at the essence of the Christian message from a Buddhist perspective. Adyashanti’s interpretation may not sit well with Christian Theologians but Adyashanti’s view is not about belief structures and tradition but rather a pointer to the experience of the Kingdom of God which he argues is the core reality of all human experience, the transmission of which is clothed in stories from a different cultural and historical setting. He also states that the goal of Christianity differs from that of Buddhism in that the former places emphasis on fundamental reality or the divine consciousness incarnating into space and time, a merging of both in the Now as show by Jesus, as opposed to the transcendence of space and time as seen in the latter. A good book for lapsed Christians who are interested in the Perennial Wisdom.

This is an important, clear and fascinating book that at last brings together the ancient non-dual wisdom of awakened masters and the teachings of Jesus, offering a fresh interpretation of the new testament that is inspired and relevant to today's spiritual seekers, providing understanding of the relationship of spiritual realization, alignment with Truth, and engagement in the world. Adyashanti is an articulate and direct teacher of liberation who sees the many facets of the life of Jesus that have been undervalued or neglected by the traditional religions because they encourage the freedom of spirit and direct connection with the Divine. Christians seeking wholeness and spiritual awakening will benefit from his perspective, and those who left the Christian community will feel a new alignment with its source.

I never really understood the gospels until I read this illuminating and insightful book. Adyashani looks at the gospels as metaphor and archetype. By way of example, in the story of the cured leper, Jesus tells the leper not to speak of the cure which the leper ignores and he goes oiut and tells everyone. The lesson---when times are bad, we look inward and reflect, but when times are good(we are cured), we ignore a deeper introspection. Wonderful passages on the power of forgivnesss with a tinge of Buddhist thought:to forgive acknowledges that we are interconnected;to not forgive is to deny that interconnection. "He who is forgiven little, loves little."(Luke) And, he quotes John to great effect where Jesus tells Mary Magdalene, "do not cling to me"(very much like the Buddhla when he says "my finger may point you to the moon but do not confuse my finger with the moon." The lesson:recall your true spirtial nature. Great section on archtypes, inlcluding Peter and Judas. Take a read.

Written by a non-Christian and profoundly Jesus centered. Further opened my eyes to how enriching diversity can lead to Shalom

This book revealed the life of Jesus in a way that brought his story alive like my Catholic education never did. After rejecting the Christianity of my youth and finding solace and aliveness in Zen practice, it has been remarkably satisfying and reve!atory to rediscover Jesus in a whole new light. This book was crucial for this new understanding and for the deep healing it has brought me.

I’ve profoundly enjoyed to read the perspective of awake awareness on the story of Jesus and it helped me to open my heart to the Christ energy that belongs to everyone. I had a huge energetic heart opening happening spontaneously in the middle of reading this book. My gratitude to Adyashanti for the clarity in his writing and the deep transmission in his work. This book and this teacher are the real deal. I feel extremely blessed. Highly recommend ALL of his books. Enjoy the reading of the stories. I will definitely read this book again.

A very precious book that goes deep in the story of Jesus, taking the reader through a journey of enlightenment and amazing spiritual discovery. Just like an artist lifting the veil of illusions, misconceptions and myths from one of the most mysterious stories of all mankind, Adyashanti paints Jesus' brief but intense time on earth through the lens of abstraction. The result is a brilliant and realistic portrait, a crystal clear account, full of integrity and unbiased spirituality, of a man named Jesus, whose voice urges each one of us to believe in our very own divinity.

Jesus is the one who truly shows us how to go beyond the yaddy yaddy yaddy mind, which keeps on telling us what we do wrong or how to better ourselves. And the only thing that is important is to know who we truly are and live the life we're supposed to live. A life of fulfillment which we can reach through following our Essence/True Self/Divine Self the Infinite ... and not through our limited mind, which is only our computer. We as a Divine Human decide how to live our unique Self. A Wonderful book ...

This book is a treasure. I savoured every page and every word. I have followed and loved Adyashanti's teaching for years and he always brings me back to what is true and pure. This book did what no other book has managed to do: it made Jesus come alive to me. I got to know him in a completely new way, not just in my head, but in my heart. With his mystical and archetypal approach, Adyashanti does a brilliant job in involving the reader personally, making us see how each and every one of us carries a Mary Magdalene, Judas, Pontius Pilate, John, and Christ, within ourselves. He shows how Jesus didn't just teach, his life *was* the teaching. In a simple and beautiful way Adyashanti shows how it is possible for all of us to live in the Kingdom of God today, like Jesus did. We are all sons and daughters of God.

I personally am not a Christian, and part of me has never fully opened to the teachings — mostly because I take issue with some of the more extreme literal translations of the bible and the Jesus story. Adyashanti is one of my favourite spiritual teachers, and THIS is the Jesus story I can get behind. I wept, I reconnected with my humanity, and I sensed a new way to embody spirit, Christ, God, whatever you wish to call it. Beautiful book!
