Ward D [McFadden, Freida] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Ward D Review: Unsettling, Sharp, and Impossible to Put Down - Ward D is a tense, fast-paced psychological thriller that had me hooked from the first chapters. The atmosphere is claustrophobic and unsettling, with steadily rising tension that never lets up. What I especially appreciated was the portrayal of mental health themes—delivered in clear, bite-sized moments rather than overwhelming data dumps, which made the story feel authentic and respectful. McFadden’s pacing is spot-on, pulling the reader deeper into uncertainty with every turn of the page. And the ending? The final twist was brilliantly executed: surprising, clever, and perfectly earned. A gripping read that balances psychological insight with pure page-turning suspense. Review: A Thriller with Excellent Pace and Many Twists - • A well-written story about Amy (a medical student) and her overnight stay in a psych ward and meeting the denizens therein. The story has excellent pace, with great little cliffhangers at the ends of each chapter to keep you turning the pages. I inhaled this book in a very short time (which is something very rare for me). I loved the incredible pace McFadden was able to maintain, slowly increasing the tension throughout the story. The twists she inserted in the story were also excellent, most of which I did not see coming. • I liked the variety of characters, as well as their uniqueness and vulnerability. Spider-Dan was funny and very memorable, as was Jade. But the other characters (particularly Amy’s ex-boyfriend Cameron and Dr. Beck) could’ve used more description and backfilling. Even the main character, Amy, kind of fell into this bucket for me. In the end, I wasn’t as frightened for Amy as I’d hoped to be when I started the book. Perhaps that’s because I didn’t feel that much attached to her (a fault of the author for not tying me emotionally to Amy). • Overall, I liked the book. It was a fun, exciting read, and a very fast one. At times, though, I found it too unbelievable (the author even admits to some of this in the introduction, that such things would never happen in a psych ward). • The ending wasn’t wholly unexpected, but it does give a satisfying jolt to the reader. While the denouement was necessary, it was just a tiny bit too lengthy for my tastes, and the final handful of paragraphs were just too trite. I think if the author had left the story “on the high road” and not gone down an all-too-familiar finale, it wouldn’t have left me with a final tepid taste.

Dark and Twisted
This one just wasn't my favorite. It was well written, well done - but I saw the twist coming so early on - I was kind of hoping I was wrong, though. Amy Brenner, a med student, is required to spend the night in Ward D for her rotation. Ward D just so happens to be the hospitals inpatient unit for mental health, a place Amy has visited once before and swore to never go to again. Some of the hospital's most dangerous patients reside there, and the ward is locked - requiring a code to get in and out. After much reluctance and dread, Amy heads to the ward for her shift, and finds her ex boyfriend there to boot. When checking in on the patients, Amy meets some who are terrified they wont make it through the night, all dreading the same person - a person who is confined in a special seclusion room. Amy also happens to recognize one of the names in the unit - one who knows too much about Amy's past. As the hours tick by, people start to go missing, and Amy has few people she can trust. Will she make it through the night? I thought the overall story was good - but the fast that I knew what was coming from when Amy sent her first text message, I was a little deflated by everything. Not only that, but some of the descriptions of the patients and mental health in general seemed a bit outdated. I did like the twist on the very last page - that was a good way to end it! Overall, not my favorite, but definitely worth a read!

Best yet
Many of this author's characters have similarities and it becomes very wash, rinse, repeat but the stories pull you in for an entertaining read and immaculate twists. This one is my favorite

Psych Up & Read It
This book had my attention from the first page. It's an easy, fairly quick read with a plot that you think you may know until it pivots. Then pivots again. While it's nice (even a reader ego boost) to figure out a story ending before it gets there, it's more humbling when you don't get it right. This book definitely kept me engaged.

Älskar att köpa böcker från amazon, snabbt enkelt och smidigt. Böckerna kommer fram i bra skick och är oftast några kronor billigare. Själva boken är en klassisk Freida Mc Fadden. Spännande, lättläst och underhållande!
