You rolled a 20...double damage!
If like me you spent hours sitting in a mates bedroom or garage, sitting on the floor, surrounded by A4 sheets, pencils, lead figures, strange dice and snacks. Then you'll get this book. As we all played Advanced Dungeons & Dragons, this was the Holy Grail of all books as this was the Dungeon Masters Guide. Basically the DM was usually the quiet mate, who got his chance to lead a game and inflict hurt and hate. I've never seen so many teens cry from characters being killed. All you needed was an A4 pad and as long as your mates had the books you were good to go.This is the first edition of The Dungeon Masters Guide, I had a midlife crisis in 2008 and spent a couple of thousand of pounds collecting all the books I'd lost or left round mates houses.Buy this, it is 240 pages of memories of campaigns, Dungeons and character creation.Well recommended.

Imaginative First Edition, if almost unplayable in places
This is a fantastic book, if purely because it shows the roaming imagination of Gary Gygax. Future editions of the game have cut down on the unplayable aspects of the first edition (with elegant variations in bonuses tables for different ability scores, impossibly low level limits for various non-human characters, terrible encumbrance tables, etc) but the first edition contains a darker side which feeds the imagination and was supported by a fantastic group of modules. Worth getting whether you play 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 3.5 or 4th edition as it contains plenty of detail on roleplaying and random things of interest. Almost like an unedited journey through Gygax's head.
