Does this planter cause rust stains on your patio or deck?

Yes. Rust stains will definitely occur. If you can place the planters in an area where the stains won’t bother you then they are definitely worth it. The rust will start as soon as they are exposed to the elements.

Planting water iris and circulation pump so water will the constantly very slowly flow over the sides. Will this erode the rust?

If anything it will only add character and possibly form different color patterns where the water streams down the sides. It won’t harm the metal.

How thick are the walls and what does to bottom surface look like?

the walls are 16 gauge metal thickness and the bottom has slightly protruded feet to promote soil aeration

The interior is square. Is it best to insert another square plastic container inside the metal structure to fill it up with soil and plants?

We provide a removable insert shelf so you will not need to fill the whole planter with soil, but you are free to use a container within the planter if you wish to do so!
