Embrace your scars and challenges
The over-riding message of the book is one that I heartily endorse from my personal experience: If we don’t properly take time to repair and reflect on life’s challenges, we are at risk of miring ourselves in self-pity and victimization.Life is challenging and we must accept that. When life threatens to shatter and break us we can apply kintsugi. Embrace the challenges. Dig deep within to restore ourselves and acknowledge that our scars make us strong, authentic and interesting people.Navarro says that emotional strength can be learned.Navarro recommends art as tool for healing. He recommends writing, building a sandcastle, learning to crochet, doing a collage; anything that occupies the mind.I liked the philosophy of the book and the simple way in which it was presented. Using real life examples, stories and insights, the author helps us to think about our own way of handling adversity and reflect on the need to embrace our scars.I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions expressed are my own. Moving, profound and practical
The psychologist, Tomàs Navarro, has applied the principles of Kintsugi, the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold lacquer, to the breaks and damage we experience in our own lives - whether through bereavement, heartbreak, depression and plain bad luck. His book is empathetic, like a conversation with a good friend, a wise friend, who provides practical and compassionate advice for repairing one's own 'cracks', seeing them differently, and choosing a brighter way forward. I contacted Mr Navarro as a journalist writing an article, but his book has encouraged me to look at the 'damage' in my own past, a damage resulting in anxiety problems and a vicious OCD, and I feel that his suggestions and experience will be able to help me on a personal level. Highly recommended.

Little or nothing to do with kintsugi
Hoped for a focus on the craft of kintsugi, with a dash of therapeutic wishy washy. It is rather the opposite. Luckily I can probably use it as a gift.
