Edge surpasses expectations, nonperfect handle still more than adequate for most.
Purchased because of the famous outdoors channel on the tube. Sounded like a must try when it went on sale for under $49 for a day. Truly a tremendous knife for the money. Punches way above its weight. Slightly more curved blade profile than I prefer but all around a great knife. I have some concerns about water intrusion between the rear of handle material and the metal pommel. Definitely will not be letting this soak or spend any time immersed in liquids. This knife is also very handle heavy but not in a bad way. The tip and blade edge are maneuverable and easy to control. There is just noticeable weight in the hand. The oval smooth handle is very comfortable but does not really adjust to different grips. There are one or two ways to comfortably hold this knife so best to just adapt to the knife in this way. If you have a personal, unusual preferred way to hold your knife , this handle may not be ideal for you. I've got ten different chef knives from commercial workhorses to high end home cutlery and this is now my current goto with my Victorinox commercial on deck. Thin blade thickness behind the edge is crucial for cutting performance. Packaging and blade protector are excellent as well. Nicely done to whoever brought this to market. The knife is a pleasure to use. I literally could care less that this is so called Damascus. What is important is that it is a dual steel with a very hard core steel edge and a protective more flexible steel jacket. The functionality of this blade design is evident in the resulting product.

This Japanese (style) knife is a beautiful addition to our kitchen
This Japanese style knife is made in China. I bought it because it is beautiful and I hoped it was an adequate culinary chopper and slicer. I was pleasantly surprised. It is slightly heavier than most Japanese gyoto knives. But that isn't a bad thing unless you're using it daily, as a restaurant sous or chef. The weight is balanced. The edges are smooth and the choil feels good, using a pinch grip. The handle is a bit thicker than the typical Japanese gyoto, but fits nicely in my wife's and my hand. We have average size hands. In fact, I like Western size handles and this one feels girthy like a Western chef's knife. The blade came very sharp, and it will need touching up in the future (like any good knife). Note: VG10 steel is slightly softer than some other Japanese high carbon steels, but it sharpens up fast and a razor sharpness can be brought back in a jiffy. The finish is a mirrored and the Damascus pattern is not a true Damascus clad. It is stamped. This should not be a deterrent to buying this knife. It is a gorgeous knife that felt great in my hand, and can make any cutting job easier. At this price, don't hesitate to buy this. It's a great deal.

Beautiful knife and great value!!
I came across this knife through a YouTube review by Outdoor55, who broke down the technical side of it really well: edge retention, blade hardness, and how the sanmai construction uses a softer outer steel around the hard VG-10 core, which gives it extra resistance to chipping and breaking. Now, I'm no knife expert and I haven't put it through the same rigorous testing he did, but I can say that so far the quality holds up. It feels solid, the edge is still performing well, and it's honestly a gorgeous knife to look at, comfortable to hold and use. For the price, it's hard to argue with. If you're on the fence, go watch that review and then come back and buy it. Highly recommend. Keep in mind: it comes very sharp from factory!

Very sharp and excellent to use. Food doesnโt stick to it.
Edge bevel only on one side of this knife, there is no evidence of an edge bevel on the other side. I took one star away for that. Nevertheless itโs extremely sharp. A few weeks of use now, preparing meat and veg on a non end grain bamboo chopping board and it is getting harder to slice some note paper. I had to push it slightly on a tomato yesterday whereas out of the box it would just fall through a tomato. Beautiful looking and although the pattern on the blade is fake (laser etching) I believe this helps to stop food sticking. Love the cool looking handle and the only cleaning I do is with a micro fibre cloth, I have never immersed it in water. $60 au. Bargain and thoroughly recommend for the price. sharp and holds an edge. Ridiculous how good it is for the price
Adequately sharp and holds an edge. Ridiculous how good it is for the price. When I got it I didn't sharpen it. Just used it until it started to dull... Which took a very long time. VERY long. It was very sharp out of the box. Almost as sharp as I could get it myself, and sharper than I normally bother with for most of my knives. Holding that edge so long is a test on a cheap knife. Really good results there. I do not like the profile. It's fine, I just prefer my gyotu edge shape better for a lot of stuff, so I use this for some vegetable tasks, my good (expensive) knife for others like dicing or mincing onions. This is good for small carving and meat, too. Though I have a fantastic carver for most of that. Damascus is just cladding. Stupid decorations only, not a real pattern welded blade. The core is just a hard plain stainless, which works well and really holds an edge. Handle is ok. Not my favorite, but usable. I'll not subtract a star for the fake Damascus or the handle because this thing was ridiculously cheap. A third the price of my (admittedly awesome) Masamoto and perfectly usable. Especially if you're used to traditional chef knife blade shapes and profiles.

Good quality product
This knife is very good quality for the price. You will find it will hold an edge very well. It is well balanced. Not a true damascus blade but much better than others in the same price point. This is not laser etched! Buy this one!
