All of the slags and impurities of the steel are burned off and folded forged to an un compromised strength with a sharp cutting edge. The final carbon content is 1% and the hardness is HRC 58. Water quenching produces a tough edge. The more rapidly a blade cools down, the harder it becomes. When a hot blade enters the water, the water also gains heat, so the first part of the blade that enters the water will be the hardest. Besides that though, the blade has a sharp edge and especially sharp tip. The scabbard is rather spartan (no end caps or anything) but the black with the red paint strokes adds a great contrast to the katana.
