I checked the resource monitor and I still had only 2gb of memory. I figured I received a DOA memory stick that I would have to send back. Then I remembered reading somewhere that another person had the same issue and it turned out that the memory stick wasn't seated properly. I shut down the NAS, opened it up, and removed the memory stick. Then I reinstalled it and made sure I pressed down with more force than the first time. I felt a little snap so I hoped the memory stick was seated properly now. Re-assembled the NAS and booted it up. I checked the resource monitor and tada... now it shows 10gb of memory. Has been working perfectly for a week now. So, if you think you received a bad memory stick, try removing it and re-installing it like I did.
