Q: How does it compare to a Blue Snowball?

It's.... a 'fine' microphone, but you'll be better off with the blue snowball. If nothing else the quality control on it will be much higher.

Q: Does it come off it’s tripod? What size thread does it have if so?

Yes it screws off of the tripod. I don't know what the size is but it's too large to fit on another desktop tripod that I have. It does, however, fit on my microphone stand that you would put on the floor/stage.
