BASIC SECURITY FUNDAMENTALS: A REALISTIC PRIMER FOR SECURITY GUARDS

This is a very short but informative book for a Security Guard particularly for a new Guard who has not received proper training. The author is an experienced guard and his advice and tips for Guards reflect this. As stated often, the primary responsibility of a Guard is to Observe and then report. The author stresses calling 911 before you take action ensuring that help is on its way should you need it. From his advice on equipment, appearance and attendance as well as acting within the scope of your duties , this is invaluable information for a new unarmed Security Guard as well as the plusses and minuses of different types of Security jobs. Recommended for someone new to Security and looking for a job but be advised it is only 42 pages in paperback.

The person that wrote this book seems to believe himself an authority on security and law enforcement. He may be. I don’t really know. However, I have worked in law enforcement and security for 40 years. If it’s one thing I have learned, we have no authorities in this business. Every Fay is a learning experience. This man uses words such as routine, always and never. These terms are terms that mean absolute, closed ended answers. He gives advise that will place people in the direct line of danger when it should be avoided. He also tells officers to dial 911 and does not direct officers to call the non emergency number to the police department. A situation may rise that requires an officers to call 911. But, for the majority of time an officer should call the non emergency police department number.The author also uses a great deal of negative language to describe officers and companies that he probably die not know. I really don’t like to speak poorly about a person unless they are right in front of me. But in this case I would feel okay with it.

Well, I dont know what to think about this book. I dont have any particular negatives but I found it a little bit expensive for what it is. Imagine your best friend talking to you about security guard jobs over a cup of coffee. That is it. I cannot say I didn't enjoy it. Nice little advise for those starting in this industry, Simple but nonetheless nice to know facts before you start.

Having done security work, I was surprised at how broad yet complete this primer is. It not only describes the basic duties of a security guard, but describes various types of security jobs with excellent advice regarding each of them, which is very good to know if you're new to security, and especially before you've been hired or even applied for a position. Good to know what you might be getting into. Highly recommended.

Went to read it as a side help to my security course and it legitimately was wrong within he first pages. Handed it to the instructor and he told me to toss it. The writer degrades the job and tells people that batons are illegal and then tells you that they are better to use then the mag light. Wait which one is it?A waste of money and gives false information.

this book is also very in depth about the security carrierthe fundamentals of what it takes to be a security officerI enjoyed reading it

Only a short book but very honest and helpful! Would recommend for anyone thinking about this line of work.

Purchased due to my new, part-time, volunteer job for face-mask & social distancing enforcement at local bookstore in red neck country. An entertaining, jam packed peek into the life of security workers which I find as humorous as it is helpful, reassuring, and practical.
