The bass is solid but not as rich and deep as my beats...although people say they are better ..they really do not sound better than the beats solo. They are cheaper and but the bass in my opinion is not as detailed. Make no mistake the bass is awesome and for 70 bucks you get one heck of a headphone. They are also very comfortable but I won't wear them outside too much as they are just too big in my opinion. The beats I can wear anywhere because they are stylish. If your looking for a good headphone for your teenage kids that will likely lose them or tear them up you can't go wrong with these...the kids will love them...and I am enjoying them at home as well. I would like it much better if it went on on one side. It also features a braile dot on the left side to identify which way is the right way without having to look at them. Why are these so expensive are they different?** A: Wow, 400! are they worth it? i think not due to most phones new configurations(no aux, i would still use an amp). these were awesome and i feel a more appropriate price would have been in the 150 range. at this time, sony was better than what apple/beats has/had. btw, dont buy bose :\ **Q: is there diffrence between these and the xb600** A: The Sony MDR-XB600s are not nearly as good as the MDR-XB500s. But if you don't have enough money for the MDR-XB500s the MDR-XB600s are not a bad alternative. **Q: they used to cost $80. Why so expensive now? Mines broke and Im lookign to buy another one!** A: If you don't mind buying Used check eBay I was able to buy a 2nd pair for $50 and they work just as good as my original pair going on 6 1/2 years old (originally bought for $80 at best buy in town). **Q: How's the sound quality?** A: I ordered these when I was overseas in 2005 or so and I love them. I had a set of bose head phones that were smaller in size compared to these but the sony`s sound quality was superior.
