I am one of those who watched the movie first, got impressed and picked up the book. [Spoilers ahead] The book is simply unputdownable! The action kicks up right in the second chapter of the book. True to it's genre of Young Adult Fiction, the story is about a 16 year old girl named Katnis Everdeen, who is part of the post apocalyptic country Panem. The Hunger Games, which is also title of the book is annual reality event wherein a boy & a girl from each of the 12 districts are selected & left to battle in arena. [End of Spoilers] The book is written in a simple English, the pacing is excellent. If you are looking for pages of descriptions of the scenes then this is not the book for you, this is all about action. The whole book is run by few characters & the protagonist steals the show. Katnis feels real. She is scared, selfish at times & selfless at other times & makes mistakes. The character is slowly built & at the end whatever action she takes, they become believable. Thus making this book excellent read.
