will these grow roots if placed in soil?

Yes, absolutely - as long as the environmental conditions are hospitable for the cactus in the first place. Most strains including mine are actually extremely foolproof. You can throw the pads flat on the ground, in any orientation or position, and they will grow roots from there.

How do you store these at room temp or in the fridge?

We stored ours in the fridge. Our iguana ate a giant leaf a day, so it didn't stay too long in the fridge.
