works but not as easy as advertised
This works - I used it to cut two large (~10") holes in ceiling drywall for speakers, however, it is not as easy as advertised. The hole size markings are not very accurate - I set it at what I wanted, "scribed" a test hole on a junk piece of drywall, then readjusted the cutter to the exact diameter I wanted. The cutter does need to be run in reverse when cutting drywall as a previous review noted. The drill needs to be held as close to perpendicular as you can while cutting; if you drift one way or the other the cutter will stall. Use a low to medium clutch setting on your drill; the cutter exerts a tremendous amount of torque when cutting a large diameter hole and will snap the drill hard if the cutter stalls with the clutch setting is too high. Finally use low downward pressure (towards the cut) and patience. I had to stop and rest my arm & hand several time while cutting hole upward in the ceiling. However, with these caveats, I did get two clean, circular holes for the speakers and minimal dust in the room.

Blade angle incorrect
The cutter blade should point in the opposite direction for a smooth even cut. The blade is keyed/notched at the base to insert one way fastening with an allen set-screw. The blade can be inserted 180 degrees reverse, yet would not be as securely fastened, especially applying greater force upon the drill. Reversing the drill motor rotation cut in seconds cleanly vs. minutes of gouging & struggling in the forward direction. Was cutting 10" holes in 5/8" drywall on a ceiling. I suppose if these were much smaller holes the struggle may had been insignificant.Had looked at a few YouTube video's of competing products. All the blades on those were such that the most pointed part of the blade was trailing vs. leading.Imagine cutting a piece of steak with a steak knife flipped upside down. It will gouge and tear the meat verses slicing it. Same scenario here. Reversing the drill motor did the trick, yet the drill bit is now rotating in a reverse direction. May be ok for softer material, yet not ideal for others.Other than that, the unit appears built well and sturdy.

A must have for recessed lighting installation!
I recently had to travel out of state to see my father-in-law and ended up having to renovate his 63 year old home to get it ready to market. I purchased this hole cutter because it most closely resembled the one I already have and am happy with. I like this one much better because of the easy to read markings for all operations. It only came with one bit wear as my other came with 3 or 4. It would be nice if they added at least one extra cutting bit, though I don’t think they should be too hard to find.

Nice Hole Cutter
Seems pretty durable. I used the to add recessed lighting. There’s 1 cutting blade on one end and the other end is to add balancers depending on how big of a hole you need. I had to make 4 inch holes and while cutting you, have to be careful not to apply too much pressure and try to hold the your drill gun evenly straight to ensure a clean cut. While cutting the dust bowl did a great job of capturing the dust and I did 6 holes without a problem. My next project is to install in-ceiling speakers that require a 9 inch hole so I hope this hole cutter performs just as well as my previous lighting install.I think it’s a well made hole saw. All parts seems to be well made and look to withstand the test of time. My only complaint is, they should of had 2 cutting blades on both ends instead of 1 so there no need for balance bars that are included with this tool, and while this saw did it’s job in cutting a clean hole, I think it would easier to cut the hole with 2 blades.Overall I like this tool and I would recommend someone to purchase for their recessed lighting or in-ceiling speaker installs for a quick, mess free accurate hole cutter.

TOTAL JUNK - WILL NOT EVEN CUT 1/4" PLYWOOD
bought this to cut speaker holes in a wood ceiling. I decided to test it first on some plywood as the manufacturer claims it will cut plywood. this "hole cutter" made it 1/8" through 1/4" plywood and started smoking. retried several times and that is as far as it will go. I don't know what I expected buying a "tool" that is designed so poorly that it has to be run in reverse.

Big bang for the buck
Purchased to install Yamaha ceiling speakers (about 9") in ceiling. Instructions SUCK so take some time to figure it out. The tool itself is well built. HOWEVER....and as another reviewer pointed out the cutting blade is installed from the factory requiring you to run your drill in reverse for it to cut effectively. I tried to figure out how to reverse the cutting blade but gave up.. As long as you're aware of that this thing works like a charm and prevents dust from creating an enormous mess.

Tears ceiling
Wouldn't recommend this product as the first time I used it, it just tore up the ceiling. I checked to make sure I was using it right. It is also very heavy for overhead work.
