what are the dimensions of the usable part of the rack?

It is 12” front to back, the section nearest the seat is 9” wide, and the section in the rear is just over 6”. The rack is rock solid period. You can lift the bike using the rack, I’ve done it. I carry all my tools, first aid gear, etc in a tail pack that fits on it perfectly with about 14 pounds in it. It gives you a little more traction and it wheelies much easier if you want to hop a log.

will this fit a Serow 250 ?

Fellow Yamahahopper owner, the rack I ordered fit perfect, but mine is a 1990, Serow XT 225. My suggestion is order it, if it doesn’t fit, return it. Good luck.
