To Carex Health Brands, if you ever come here, or perhaps to your competition, then? ;) Your 9.5 inch of lift is a great help, but when will we have the next-generation of this device? ( I would guess that something around 18 or so inches would be excellent.) ( So we could sort of "park & lock" our wheelchairs and then easily work from that new height?) And BTW, your UpEasy Seat Assist works great in my new wheelchair, as a perfect pair !!! :) (Its a 16 inch, seat width, Poly Fly, and when I turn-out the arm braces, just right, it is a good fit.) Thanks and hopefully, we will hear more about newer ideas from your company, soon? Like we are supposed to be the Land of the Free & Brave, so like get BRAVE. already? ;) (Oh, for the folks with hard-chair problems, just take a single-seat with open arms at its side and then "trap" this device under something like a 2.5 to 3 inch cushion, like from a "granny chair" and once you get that cushion good and stuck into the arms of the chair, you will probably LOVE this UpEasy idea. :) BTW, I am only using it at 90 pounds of lift, I'm at 190 and only need about half that for a proper assist to stand. (Also that setting is very nice to "catch" me, when I have to sit-down with a short needed "fall", when my arthritic knees force that action upon me.) *** HELLO, Builders and Dreamers !!! The instructions, or lack thereof, had me about to return this before I finally got out a flashlight and studied the inside of it. As delivered, the lift is fairly much locked in place closed and does NOT work out of the box. The box says to sit on it and it will open, which it will not do. You must CAREFULLY pry it open and move an arm to lock in place at the estimated weight of the person that will be sitting on it. Once that is done it will remain open unless sat on. My mother said she weighs 150lbs and it about threw here out of the chair the first time she used it, so I have ended up setting it on 95 pounds and it seems just right. It is NOT the most comfortable thing in the world, that is true, but it looks like it will give my mother back some independence she lost this past week after a bad fall. If you don't have it positioned just perfectly, or slide off one side or the other, it's a pain in the keister. Plus I can always set it up to 200lbs and see how far the cat can fly. So far, it was well worth the money. One last thing - it is advertised as coming with an instructional video. Mine did not.

Bought this for my dad who is pretty old. I had him try to sit on it and it did not go down. I guess his behind is positioned as high as he can go which is the middle of the seat. With that position, the leverage of my dad's weight is not enough to push the seat down. So essentially if you dont position yourself all the way on the seat, it would not work. I tried it and it worked for me, but I have my balance and can move all the way up the seat position. But depending on how old you are, this is not going to work for everyone.

Works - "boosts" my elderly mother up from chair - but only from ONE chair - product has limits. The product has height - so it will raise a person up higher - possibly making the seating too high for a person. I had to remove the regular chair cushion to accommodate the height of the product. Otherwise my mother's feet would have not been touching the floor. Can't use it on upholstered couch - product sits awkwardly on the couch cushion - then tilts sideways to the cushion's edge when sat upon. Can't use on the dining chairs - makes my mother too high. So - if your elderly or handicapped person is small or short - it may not work well. At this point - my mother can only use it in one chair, with normal cushion removed. Attempting to remove a couch cushion didn't work at all to try and allow the product to be proper height -because then she was sitting too low!. So - before buying - realize there will be limits on usefulness - depending on type of seating in the home and the height of the person using it. Don't only go by the weight guideline.

Main flaws: 1) Needs a lot of strength to set up and adjust. Elderly/handicapped persons will likely need help. 2) It does aid in rising from sitting position but it's an ejecting forward vs lifting motion. As warned in directions, since the Assist is automatic as one's weight shifts forward, one has to be VERY careful to not lean to get something off a table (& certainly not off floor) or one will be pushed forward accidentally. 3) not very comfortable for sitting long periods so not really good for TV watching. 4) i bought to help me get out of a (now) too low couch. To give enough 'resistance' for Assist to work, I had to add rigid support under cushions. (I needed to do this anyway, so not a big deal but as product description says, the Assist not really designed for soft surfaces). 4) Because the Assist works by pushing one forward, it necessarily puts a lot of pressure on buttocks and lower back. I suffer from sciatica and it seems to have been aggravated by the Assist. Positives are it looks to be of good quality. Instructions are clear and helpful. As compared to stand alone power lifts which cost many hundreds of dollars or lift chairs which can cost thousands, this Assist is very economical at less than $100. My opinion is this item probably works best for younger users and those without balance or lower back issues. Good for chairs like dining or office, less so for living room seating (usually softer & sat in for longer periods). Doesn't work well for me but I can see it being of benefit to those I describe above.

My 88 yr old Mother has been using a recliner for years to help keep her feet elevated. Last year she bought a new recliner but resisted buying a lift chair because of cost and she did not feel like she was that bad off to need a lift chair. At that time, she was not having as much trouble with her right side. A few months ago she began to have pain and weakness on her right side due to a pinched nerve and bone spurs in the neck. It was getting harder for her to get out of the recliner and she would just flop down into the recliner when going to sit down. To get up, she would have to rock back and forth to get momentum to get out of the recliner. She finally came to the realization that she was going to have to have surgery to get better and out of pain. She also realized that she was not going to be able to strain like she was to get out of the chair when she had surgery. She saw an ad for this upeasy lift chair and asked me to order it. I read the reviews and cautioned her that she would have to be careful with it and it could throw her out if she was not careful leaning forward or leaning over the side to reach for something. And yes I know it says not to use it with recliners. So we threw caution to the wind and ordered it off amazon. The ones on amazon were less expensive than the ad she showed me. The device came very quickly. It was very easy to setup and the video was very easy to follow. We practiced with the seat in a hard chair first and got the setting right for her weight. On average she weighs 155lbs. We have had it about a month and I am happy to see her not flopping down in the chair and not having to rock to get out of the chair. It lets her down easy and pops her right up. She has had her neck surgery and I think it has been a god send to have her using this uplifting seat at this time. The device just lifts her up as she steads herself on the arms of the recliner. The surgery did not fix the right shoulder issues and she is looking to have more surgery where this device is probably going to more invaluable as she recovers from a future rotator cuff surgery. After neck surgery, she was having trouble getting out of the hard kitchen chair she uses to eat her meals. She carried the seat into the kitchen several times and said I guess we better order another one so I can get out of this chair. We tried putting a few seat cushions in that chair to see if that helped and it did, so at this time we are not ordering another one. We might have to reconsider if she ends up having to have surgery on her right shoulder and she is not able to use her arm to push herself up out of the kitchen chair. When I was researching this device I wondered how comfortable this would be because it did not look as comfortable as a recliner seat. This was a big concern as she spends most of her day and evening in this chair until she goes to bed. She reports that it is comfortable. I have seen her lean to the side to reach for something and has not had a problem and she has used caution regarding activities that would require her to lean forward. She takes the lift seat out of the recliner to do activities like putting on shoes and socks. I am not seeing why it is not recommended for a recliner. I give it a thumbs up for setup and easy of use in our application. Hoping it will remain operational and in good condition over time.

I didn't know a product like this existed but I was excited to find it. The idea is superb but the execution leaves some to be desired. A few thoughts: The weight adjustment is not intuitive but somewhat difficult. If you need assistance standing up there is a decent chance you will have a difficult time adjusting the weight setting on this and will need assistance. Because it is a gas shock I expect it would need adjustment over time and temperature. I had to go down a setting or two from the labels to get the shocks to retract. As you are sitting down on it you have to bounce a bit to get it to start and then it lowers slowly. Until about the last 2 inches where it just drops. You are still on a cushion but it is a bit jarring and unexpected the first time at least. As you are standing up it was hard for me to tell how much assistance it offered. I am able to stand on my own and purchased this for a family member. They were not willing to try it after seeing me use it. My family was also concerned about the weight of moving this around. The box says 9 lbs and that seems about right. This is a really great idea for a product that could be very helpful in the right situation. I feel like it needs a little more smoothness to be effective in its intended application.

I love this product. I have Muscular Dystrophy and I use this whenever I go out to eat at a normal restaurant with low chairs. The only drawback is that I am weak also in my upper arms and I have to have somebody push it together for me as I cannot do this myself. But if you only have a problem standing, and you have strong upper body than this is the perfect product for you.

Great for getting up out of chair

Though a little heavy to make it easily transportable, it is comfortable and easy to set up. It really does help to lift my dad off the chair and reduce the strain off his asssistant, my mom.
