Front takedown pin tool
Life saver when trying to install the front takedown pin. Makes it very easy, no flying springs or detents.

Big Save on Headaches and Frustration
I was looking through Amazon for something else and came across this tool again and clicked on the link to read the reviews and questions for grins. I purchased this pivot pin install tool back in October using it about four or five times since. If you have ever lost a spring or detent, buy this tool along with your new lower parts kit.. If you have ever almost lost the spring or detent, buy this tool. If you have ever swore more than once installing the front pivot pin spring and detent, buy this tool. If you have ever had to work up the courage to install the front pivot spring and detent, buy this tool. After I bought this tool, used it once, I found that all the above just went away. Being a smarty pants (right?) and prior to getting this tool I had gone to the hardware store and bought a clevis pin (the one with all the holes in it) and after struggling with that on a build, I went a bought a pivot pin tool, kind of like an "L" shaped Allen wrench with holes in it very similar to the clevis pin. They both worked, but the real trick is you have to mate the end on the pivot pin tightly to the end on either pin tool and there is always an unavoidable gap between the two, because they are both kind of rounded at the ends, as you push your pivot pin past the detent/spring just waiting to jump out at you, or the far corner of your basement. If you slip you will experience one or more of the aforementioned possibilities! So, with all that said and I hope you found the humor in all this and buying this tool will definitely make you a much happier camper. It's simple, foolproof (for most) and quick! One quick TIP: When you put the pivot pin through this tool, keep the smooth part facing across the detent (in case you forgot something like having the spring and detent backwards) and then rotate the pivot pin until it clicks into the pivot pin groove for retention. This thing is so ingenious and think I'll buy a backup or maybe gift it to one of my fellow frustrated builders! For AR-10s/LR-308 builds, I guess you can always get a clevis pin 1/4 x 2 inch I think, or maybe this guy could make one for those? Happy building...

Single purpose tool that makes a nearly impossible job easy.
My first ar and getting that spring, detent and pin together was really tough. I had to practice with it a few times, but when I learned how to use it, the detent install was easy.

But it now!
This makes one of the biggest (PIA) springs, very easy to assemble. If you’re starting a build, get one of these… thank me later

Highly recommend this tool. Install only
Quickly and easily installed the pivot pin/spring/detent. It is not for removing existing detent pins.

This is a must have tool.
The media could not be loaded. Anyone who has ever assembled an AR lower has experienced the frustration of the front detent/spring. This thing looks like it may have been produced by fisher price about 30 years ago, and seeing it in the package, I was very skeptical. But it works. It works really well. I would have preferred two changes to it. First is that it would have been nice to have it made out of metal. Secondly, the paddle used to rotate the tool could have been much smaller as it does not require much pressure to turn, and it would take up less space in my gun tool box (not that it takes up that much space as is). I have tried all sorts of gadgets to aid in install of that pin that has assisted the invention of more swears that any other part of the assembly process, and some work better than others, but this thing is easily the best of them. Most other tools for this require a certain amount of technique to work well. With this thing, if you have any business assembling anything as complex as a lego set, you can use this product successfully. And I found myself taking the pin out multiple times followed by the phrase "On, I gotta see that again", out of sheer disbelief of how easy that formerly dreaded task has now become. Between this, and the trick of threading the rear detent spring hole with a 4-40 plug screw, never chase those detents again.
