This product *only* works with Natural Gas (chemical compound CH4). It does not function for Liquid Propane (C3H8) or Butane (C4H10). Upon receiving the product you'll notice that all the material in the descriptions on the box and on the detector itself specify that it will only work with Natural Gas. Upon testing with both Propane and Butane I have determined this to be accurate. It will not alarm on anything outside of Natural Gas. If you have Liquid Propane (LPG) fueling your home, do NOT purchase this product as it will not save you from a gas leak. The materials on the product page show images saying it detects all other combustible gasses, it does not. Even the product description states "Propane Methane CH4 LPG Butane Goal.." this is a complete misrepresentation of what the product can perform and should be removed immediately from the store.

We had an acident where one of the knobs on our gas stove was bumped in a way that it turned the gas on just pas the pilot position and gas was slowly released into our house. We had left and did not know it until we came back 4-5 hours later to a house full of gas.Becuase of this I wanted to look for a natural gas detector that was "smart" in a way that it would send a notice to our cell phones if it detect gas in the air.This unit is the only one I could find and it was reasonably priced. Fairly easy and straight forward to hook up. It's obvious that the person who wrote the instructions has English as a second launguage but you will get by fine.The instructions note mounting this 1-2 feet from the ceiling. The problem is you need an electrical outlet which no one has that high on the wall. I mounted ours about 18" from the cook top and it works as intended. We have not had the alarm go off due to regular cooking.

After unpacking the detector, it instructs you to download an app called "SmartZone" from the Play Store. The first thing the app does is force you to login or register. Surprise! Neither function works. They just show a spinning cursor forever.I searched on the Play Store and found another app from Hisense called "Smart Home". That at least lets me register. Then I tried to add a "Gas Sensor" to the app, and that's when I found the second roadblock:This product only supports 2.4 GHz Wifi.If you have a mixed network, as I do, it's hard to constrain your phone to the 2.4 band to successfully complete the setup. I will need to create a second SSID for 2.4, join it, and attempt to join the gas sensor. After all that, I'm not sure if other devices will see it at all, since it'll be on a different SSID.All in all, a very frustrating experience. Will probably return for a refund.

Set up and install is pretty straightforward. You need to install it according to the type of gas your appliances use. This is extremely important! For natural gas, the instructions recommend near the ceiling because natural gas is lighter/less dense than room air. For LP gas, its recommended to be closer to the floor since that gas is heavier/more dense than room air. If you ignore those facts the unit will not be able to detect anything! Once you power it on it does a self check to start the set up process. After you've installed the application, you can go in and set up the wifi link to receive alerts while away. I've tested it twice with natural gas and its detected and alerted me in less than 30 seconds both times. If I could find a complaint it would have to be for the somewhat garbled up English the unit speaks during tests and alerts. Other than that you can still understand it and it seems to work as expected.

If you have gas in your home why would you not have this itemfor your safety. Gas is no joke if you have a leak it can be bad.I have never had a leak but now I can know if I do Before I get homeor be woken up before its to late. at any price its cheaper than a new house .

I had trouble both finding the app online and setting up the Wi-Fi, had to create a dedicated 2.4ghz SSID, but now I have it connected I have brought a 2nd, this is the only natural gas detector I could find that is powered from an outlet and is connected so I get an alert on my phone as well as from the unit. I tested the unit with an lighter by blowing out the flame and it dectected it fast.

This stupid made in china piece of junk demands your phone number and other permissions that it does not require. Then it doesnt work.

Looked For something like this about a year ago and they did not exist or at least I could not find them. We had a gas leak and that was the reason I look for one. Glad they finally started making it. First service and attractive look.
