Absolutley amazing value at £20 inc postage and no complaints from the birds .. so far
I recently bought this large box to feed the birds in my garden through the winter, and I think it will be a reliable staple going forward Absolutley amazing value at £20 inc postage. The mealworm suet pellets are dense with energy and protein, which seems to be exactly what the birds want. I often see robins, blackbirds, tits and sparrows flocking to the feeder within minutes of topping it up, and they come back again and again through the day. The size & weight of the box makes it very good value for money. It lasts a long time even when you fill multiple feeders each morning, so you feel you are really getting good feed for the price. The pellets are easy to scatter or put in a suet feeder, and they do not fall apart into dust, which helps prevent mess beneath the feeder. I have found that the birds seem very keen at getting a good helping of these pellets, especially in colder weather when natural food is harder to find. That makes this product feel like more than just bird food; it’s a genuine way to help the local wildlife stay healthy through winter. Overall, very happy , will buy this box again and would recommend it if you want a high-energy, well-liked feed that keeps your garden birds coming back.

Good for ground feeding species such as blackbirds and robins
I guess that people will give these a high score - or a low one - depending purely on whether their birds gobbled them up. So for once the average score is a bit meaningless; you have to try them and see. I bought suet pellets to supplement the diet of non-finch ground feeding species such as blackbirds and robins - and after a few days these species started taking to them slowly. I already suspected that suet pellets in the hanging feeders wouldn’t do so well, since fat balls hadn’t been favoured. Either way, everything here much prefers sunflower hearts; I put out loads in a niger feeder – simply drilling a very slightly bigger hole so that even greenfinches and sparrows cope (I prefer hearts because they are SO popular to the birds and because I begrudge paying for shells; any waste is quickly picked up by chaffinches, and sunflower seeds hopefully are imported from nearer sources than more exotic seed or peanuts) Regarding the pellets themselves – they are firm (provided you keep them out of the rain) clean, and come well packaged. On the down side, I can see nothing but suet. Hence presumably the price. I would be interested if the manufacturers could provide the percentage of insects in them. (PS After a couple of weeks a magpie discovered them and finishes them off in minutes. So I put an upturned hanging basket cage over them and that slows my greedy black and white friend down. I've increased my rating to 4 stars from 3 though). Apples thrown on the ground are a favourite with all the thrush family.

Very popular with the birds
I'm writing when I, and a large portion of Scotland are snowed in and without public transport. And these are really popular and causing a riot on my bird feeders. Some I put in a feeder on their own, and some mixed in bird seed, either way the birds are ramming or dive bombing each other off the bird feeders and seed catching plates to get at them. It's attracted gold, green and chaffinches, coal, blue and coal tits, starlings, blackbirds, thrushes, sparrows, Robins, pheasants and a woodpecker. And there's a now massive rabbit being a pie at the fallen pellets. That last is actually alarming me. I store it in a tub outside and it hasn't gone mouldy, there isn't a heap of crumbled bits at the bottom either, it came well packaged. I think they come perhaps a bit long so the smaller birds struggle a bit, but overall they all seem to love these.
