What is the locking mechanism for the salt and pepper? Other electric mills tend to open when you hold them as locking is inadequate.

You lock the salt and pepper by simply twisting barrel it’s very easy and I have had no problems with them coming undone accidentally. I have been very pleased with this product

Hi , can any one tell me if this is particularly noisy in use? We recently replaced a electric mill with one made by Tower that was twice as noisy.

It's not particularly noisy but bearing in mind its grinding salt crystals or whole peppercorns it's not going to be quiet
