Kidde Smoke Detector, 9-Volt Battery Operated, Photoelectric Smoke Alarm, Battery Included

I already had an ionization type smoke alarm in my apartment hallway. The house rules dictated that there must be an alarm in the bedroom. So after a bit of YouTube research I learned that photoelectric alarms detect smoldering fires better and the ionization types are old tech. Hence my decision to get this one. A couple of weeks after installation, it blasted a false alarm. Well, I won't give it any demerits yet. I think it was just some dust floating by. I'll edit this review later if there are any changes in my thought.

Fairly straightforward install. Haven’t had it in service long enough to know whether it eats batteries or not , but I like the spring-loaded friction-fit battery terminals, as opposed to the old-school snap-tight terminals that lock on so tight, they break off the plastic mount when changing the battery.So far, this photo-electric smoke detector passes monthly test button pushes, and no false alarms.Heating with wood, I mounted it next to the 35 year-old ionizing smoke detector, and added a sensitive carbon monoxide monitor to cover all contingencies.

Ever so easy to install as well as battery replacement. Long ago developed the habit of replacing detector batteries every year. This year my schedule was overlooked. So, 13 months after purchasing this particular type of unit, the factory-supplied 9v battery died (yes of course at 2 o'clock in the morning).FYI. Specifically acquired this photoelectric device to add another layer of smoke detection. Our home builder-installed ionization detectors. According to the NFPA (National Fire Protection Assoc.) the photoelectric and ionization units, each respectively have the superior ability for either smoldering smoke fire or hot smoke fire detection.

I bought 3 of these for our house in November 2022 and installed them immediately. Starting in January, one had issues with occasional false alarms. It got worse the next month. In this case, changing batteries and blowing out the alarm to clear dust (since the alarm is photosensitive) didn't help. I contacted Kidde and they replaced it quickly for free. They did ask for me to ship back the defective unit but shipping was paid for by them. Thanks Kidde!

I purchased this on December 5 - the first false alarm happened in the middle of night on January 31, which is just happened to be the last day I could have returned this unit to Amazon. The next day I checked the battery; it was good. I put it in the unit again, and the alarm immediately went off. So I put a new battery in, and, everything seemed fine. The little red light flashed as usual, but no false alarm. Less than two weeks later, it went off again. I know the batteries are fine, it’s just that this unit is junk, apparently.

Did u check ur smoke alarm lately, One out of 5 started beeping, thought I needed a battery but my alarm was shorting out, so long story short if ur alarm is over 10 yrs get a new one like this , easy to install and lasted over 10 yrs

Easier to order online, instead of driving to the store. Works well. Replace batteries when needed--daylight savings time 2x per year.

Manufacturing 2020 ( 6/10 years of its life wasted) . Not informed by seller. Need replacement

It's esthetically perfect circular shape and beige color make this smoke alarm exceptionally satisfying to stare at for hours at a time. And if that wasn't enough, I found the screws to be surprisingly helpful for screwing it into my ceiling. Although it comes with a battery not installed, you have the option of installing installing it so that the alarm would work. I am very proud of this smoke detector, and have told all my friends (and every complete stranger I meet) about it. I named it George.

I guess it works as advertised. Just replace tge batteries every year......Wait for a fire, see if it makes a noise i guess

Easy to install and comes with a battery for each one. Took a very long time to arrive though. Only complaint and not necessarily in the sellers control but may be pertinent for those needing one in reasonable time.

Great product, battery lasted a long time. Easy to install and not too big.
