The only thing that has worked for me
I am in my mid-30s and have been a life long, hard core nail biter... I am someone who will chew and pick my nails and surrounding skin until they're so short they bleed and hurt constantly (not to mention look horrendous), yet still keep going... Mavala stop is the only nail biting deterrent that has worked for me. It does not taste 'spicy' like other products, it just tastes horrible! For those concerned about visibility, it is essentially clear nail polish that tastes bad. The shine doesn't last as long as regular nail polish. For reference, I applied Mavala Stop about 6 hours prior to taking the attached photo. I have seen other reviews that have complained they taste it when they eat... This is essentially just bad tasting nail polish. There is not any artificial intelligence involved... It does not know if you're chewing your nails vs. eating.. so after it's recently applied, if your nail touches your lip/tongue, of course you will taste it... But I have never had the taste transfer over to food while I am cooking. Just be conscience about it... If you're going out for wings, don't apply it before, or get boneless... it keeps your hands away from your mouth which not only is more hygienic, but it helps me with my "hand to mouth habit".... I also smoke cigarettes and have a habit of touching my face and chin lot... So this keeps me from biting my nails and keeps my hands away from my face in general.. Three years ago I used Mavala stop every other day and for the first time in my life, I had nails that didn't hurt, I wasn't embarrassed about and actually looked nice! Also, my chin acne cleared up because I didn't touch my face as much! A year after I stopped biting my nails, I quit smoking too! I didn't bite my nails for almost 2 years and I quit smoking for 10 months. I fell off the wagon last year. First, I started biting my nails again, then I started smoking again... Recently I chewed them until they we're shorter and more painful than they've ever been in my life, so I bought Mavala stop again. I would forget to apply to at home and would chew at work, because after a few days, although it still tasted bad, it wasn't AS strong.. So if you're as determined as I am, you'll power through and bite them anyways - as long as have a drink handy... I got a second bottle to keep at work and now apply it daily, as well as keep a nail file handy at home, work and in the car, to resist the urge to bite, pick and "fix" them, which has allowed my nails to grow again! Mavala Stop will make you conscious of the habit.. when you stick your finger in your mouth it will jog your memory reminding you to stop! I attached a picture of them today, and although they don't look great yet, they don't hurt and they look sooo much better than last month when they were half as long, sore and bleeding..Also, I know this will help me quit smoking again in the future... I'll try to remember to update this again in a few weeks - another way to hold myself accountable...

Actually works, just be ready to reapply
This stuff really works. I was skeptical, but it did the job faster than I expected. Full disclosure, the first day was a bit of an adventure because the bitter taste caught my little one off guard and there was some dramatic reacting 😅 But by midday the hands were staying out of the mouth, so clearly the message got through. My one note is that it wears off pretty quickly. I had to reapply the next day to keep it working, so this isn't a one-and-done kind of thing. A little bottle like this could go fast if you're reapplying often. Overall though, it does exactly what it promises. If you're trying to break a nail biting or thumb sucking habit, this is worth a try. It worked here where other things hadn't ✨

More for thumb suckers
Even though this polish was effective for me and my grandfather, it did not work for my LO. She sucks her pointer finger and I think because her nail isn't touching her tongue, she couldn't taste the polish. I did have her lick her thumb to see if she could taste it and she didn't like the taste at all, but it still wasn't enough to make her stop I still think it's a great product. When I tried it on myself, I was utterly disgusted by the taste. It tastes as if you licked acetone. And the taste just lingers! It makes you really regret putting your finger in your mouth. Great for nail biters, but might not be enough for determined finger suckers

I honestly can’t believe how well this worked!
My 4.5-year-old daughter has been sucking her fingers for years, especially when she was tired, watching TV, stressed, and while sleeping. We were constantly reminding her, “Fingers out of your mouth,” sometimes what felt like every few minutes. Nothing really worked. I actually bought Mavala Stop about 2–3 years ago and tried it back then, but it didn’t help at all. Recently, I found the bottle again and decided to give it another try. The difference this time has been incredible! As soon as she tasted the bitterness, she stopped putting her fingers in her mouth. We are now almost FOUR WEEKS in, and she does not suck her fingers at all during the day. Even at night, she has almost completely stopped. I think I’ve only noticed her briefly putting them in her mouth two or three times during this entire period. Her nails on those fingers are finally growing normally, and the irritated, bumpy skin she had from years of sucking is already healing and looking so much better. I’m honestly amazed. After years of constantly reminding her to take her fingers out of her mouth, I never expected something this simple to make such a dramatic difference. If you tried this when your child was younger and it didn’t work, it may be worth trying again when they’re a little older. That was definitely the case for us. I’m one very happy mom. I just wish I had tried it again sooner

VOMIT INDUCING
Bought this to use on my thumb sucking son. He’s 23 months old and been sucking on his thumb since he could figure it out. I have no issues with thumb sucking however his teeth were showing signs that he needs to stop. I put it on around 1600 and he would make a disgusted face when he tried to suck his thumbs which was great, cause he would immediately stop and pull them out of his mouth. However, when it came time for bed time (1930) we did our usual read books before bed and he cuddles up next to me; well he also did his usual put his thumb in his mouth and he must’ve done it too long because he immediately projectile vomited all over the two of us; proceed to change him and give him a bath. I then lay him in bed and he yet again goes back to the thumb and as I’m not even a step out of his room and he is sitting up projectile vomiting again. So two baths in less than 10 minutes. I then made sure to use nail polish remover and scrub his thumbs intensely to remove this product so he can get some sleep. I made sure to suck his thumbs myself after cleaning them both to make sure the product was removed. Needless to say I feel like a horrible mom because while I’m trying to do what’s best for my child, the vomiting was not worth it. All this to say, the product works but I would make sure to either apply when you can observe your child entirely or wait until they’re slightly older to understand why you’re applying this product to their thumb/finger.

Great disgusting product !
Got this for my husbands chronic nail biting . He HATES IT (bc it’s so nasty when he tries to bite) lol which makes me LOVE IT. It’s DISGUSTING he says which prevents him from wanting to bite. Now, the only downside is this polish will get on your food if you cook with your hands nomatter if it’s been days since applied . You can literally taste it on whatever is touched so wear cooking gloves or something to protect your hands if you cook with this polish on. Other than that , this product has a 5 star from me. Oh and it is tiny , like a baby dolls nail polish but it’s enough to reapply several times and hopefully by the time you run out the biting urge has completely disappeared anyway.

Thumb sucking is now a thing of the past
She is done with the Thumb!!!! She started kindergarten this fall and seemed unable to stop sucking that darn thumb. At first, we though thumb sucking was great. No binky to lose. Then she turned 4 and we started to panic because she seemed unwilling to even try stopping. We did a few of the "positive" reinforcement strategies with no luck. Right before school started we did get her to stop sucking her thumb during the day, however, at night she just couldn't get herself to sleep without plopping her thumb in her mouth. So we decided to order Mavala Stop Deterrent Nail Polish. At five years old she understood what was expected as an outcome and why it was time, but this Nail polish helped her achieve her goal. Day one, she managed to only put her thumb in her mouth one time and then she whined about the terrible taste. It was a late night, but she finally fell asleep. Day two, she didn't even attempt to place her thumb in her mouth at bedtime. Still restless, but fell asleep quicker. Day three, we were back to a normal sleep schedule. We told her how proud we are of her for learning to move on from her thumb. With lots of praise and painting the nails almost daily for two weeks. We decided to paint all of them because a friend of her's now sucks his finger instead of his thumb. We didn't want to deal with that at all. After 6 weeks, we stopped using the Mavala Stop Deterrent Nail Polish Treatment because she was completely free of the habit. We could have stopped much earlier in the process, but wanted to be 100% sure she was done. Now, my husband is using the remainder of the polish to help him stop biting his nails. We highly recommend this product. The bottle is VERY small, but there was enough for us to use nightly on her thumb for 6 weeks and now on my husbands fingers. Totally worth the money.

Best beauty Decision ever!! 5* product which helped me regain confidence
Amazing product. Does what it says on the tin. I’ve bitten my nails for almost thirty years. I once stopped biting them for about six months but only because they were in artificial nails always. But there’s never been a time where I’ve had them exposed and not bitten. It’s been a real battle. My nails have therefore always looked bitten, unhealthy, malnourished and quite disgusting. I could only go on dates if I had fake nails. Playing pool, typing, holding a microphone or even gesturing became quite embarrassing with these nasty nails. I always felt embarrassed and disappointed in my self. I decided to try a bitter tasting polish as a fix. Best decision ever! This one tastes so Terrible and each coat lasts for days so you only have to reapply every 3-5 days depending on how often you wash. That means even though it’s a small bottle, it will last you months. I started using this on the 23rd of September 2018 and because of how bitter it tasted, the aversion started immediately. I stopped biting immediately but would initially still try to just have the fingers around my mouth but the taste is so nasty and long lasting that i actually became used to keeping my hands away from my mouth and even hated the idea of my hands going near my face. Do keep the bottle tightly sealed and clean as mine leaked and so it’s almost empty. However, even though I only used it for six weeks, I’ve now stopped biting my nails and instead obsess about having a healthy nail care regime which consists of pushing the cuticles back, painting them and applying nail hardener. My nails have grown leaps and bounds as you can see from the before and after photos (taken 6-7 weeks apart). I can now have a full manicure, paint them and flaunt my nails. They look amazing, I get complements from friends and family but they are quite weak due to extended Time spent biting for almost 30 years plus lots of gels, acrylic and stick on nails. So I am now rather focused on treating them and getting them strong and healthy. I can’t explain the joy, peace, confidence and freedom I feel from using this. It’s honestly changed my life. My family and friends are so proud of me. Thank God. Cheers to the manufacturers of this and the amazon seller. I’m so grateful: you changed my life.

Does exactly what it says it would
Been a lifelong nail biter. I'm worst in the car where I do it absentmindedly. Was a bit sceptical about how good this stuff would be, or how long lasting it would last, but my fears turned out to be unfounded. It is awesome, tastes disgusting, and it very hard wearing. It's almost invisible unless you're really looking close, and the few times I've forgotten about it, and started to bite a nail, I'm given a very swift reminder not to do it again. The taste is bitter, and stays in the mouth long enough for you to not want to do it again. I sit here about two weeks into using it - nails are growing back nicely, no more sore fingers - nails are actually starting to catch on surfaces if I rub my fingertips over things. Amazing. I imagine I'll keep up the treatment for another couple of weeks, then stash the little bottle somewhere, and if I start to slip back into old habits, just do some shorter treatments as necessary, but I'm hoping this will help me break the association completely. If you want to stop - couldn't recommend this stuff highly enough.

She's now 4 and doesn't really suck her thumb anymore
Worked for my daughter. She had been sucking on her thumb since she was a baby. At around 3 and a half, I started using this. She's now 4 and doesn't really suck her thumb anymore. It's important to note that I never forced it on her. We had a discussion (not sure how much she understood) and she agreed to wear the liquid. One thing is for sure, the taste is horrible.
