A full nights sleep
This machine works for both myself and partner (who always woke up several times during the night until now) we like the "rainfall" setting, which is a natural and and wonderful sound to sleep by (even with our noisy neighbours above us, talking, walking about and sometimes dragging furniture on the wooden floor between midnight and 5 am). This model has 30 different sound settings and is adequate for our use. Research and read the reviews we have no regrets (except the price). Spend the extra and don't waste time or money on cheaper models.

Very good product that solved a snoring problem
Very good product that solved a snoring problem. Worth purchasing this more expensive unit as the sound is fuller and works better.

Excellent machine if you have tinnitus
My husband has tinnitus and we have very noisy neighbours, so it’s a double whammy

Avoid.
I am highly sceptical of the positive reviews for this product. I have suffered with noisy neighbours for the last year and bought this following not only reviews on here but also other websites. I haven't suffered the issues with the SD card others have reported (though those reports are widespread) however I find the device ineffective and very poor. First off, the device itself looks okay but the buttons have a distinct poor quality about them. This is a minor issue, and if it worked I would not care but it does not. I live in a ground flat, I have tried this in our smallest room and no noise from it is effective at cancelling out background voices from the flat above, and certainly has NO hope against louder music or TV noise. The waterfall option sounds odd, more like a fan. I have a dehumidifier, this produces a white noise that has more effect on background noise that this. This is a total waste of money. I would not advise purchasing this. I'm confident that you'll have the means to play this the type of white noise this offers already assuming you've some speakers and the internet. You'll probably find better and more effective white noises too. The adaptive volume does react, but it has no subtlety. It cannot react to the type of noise you're buying this for, it has to be a loud and prominent noise and it's inept at masking those anyway. If like me you were hoping this would be the device to finally ease those noise nuisances, sadly it is not.

Expensive, but satisfying purchase, with a couple of drawbacks.
The overall sound quality delivered by this Sound+Sleep Therapy Machine is far superior to that of the machine I used before: it doesn't have this tin can sound quality. However, there are certain sound effects the richness adds that don't sound very natural, and there's even some that are startling. My favorites so far, after a couple of weeks of use, are ocean, train, city, and meditation, since they deliver the type of constant din that's most likely to cover any disturbances. Something the manufacturer should pay attention to in subsequent releases is the limitation pushing the adaptive sound button puts on maximum attainable volume, which is not nearly loud enough to cover disturbing environmental noises. Also, for maximum flexibility, they should have made it with a sound card option. I am nevertheless pleased with my purchase of a fairly expensive machine.

Does not live up to the hype
I really was hoping great things from this device. The reviews i read made it sound like the Holy Grail for peaceful sleep. But unfortunately in my opinion it does not live up to the hype, especially for the price. I had read that a number of these devices had gone out with a faulty SD card that causes horrid screeching noises to come out of it after a few days, and if i ended up with one of these not a problem contact ASTI support and they will send a replacement SD card with instructions on how to fit it and this will correct the problem. Knowing this i still went ahead and purchased it. The first few days i was relatively happy with the unit, albeit with a few minor disappointments on some of the hyped features (i will get to this in a bit), but then the screeching and distortions started. So i contacted ASTI and, despite getting a rather curt and unfriendly response from the support, within a week the replacement SD card was posted through my door. I fitted it easily within 10 mins, and everything seemed hunky dory again. However, after a few nights of using it with the new card in i noticed lots of little clicks, pops, and thudding noises in the background of my favourite sounds (the train, the fan, and the brown noise). These were irritating enough for me to not be able to sleep with the device on. I reported this to ASTI support again and got an even more curt and abrupt response (no greeting, no "sorry the device is not working as expected", etc.) stating that all they can do is send out another card. If it didn't work the first time around, how is it going to work doing the same thing again?!? At this point i realised i was going to get nowhere with ASTI so i have returned the device to the UK seller, who was brilliant by the way and refunded the item easily. In addition to the noise distortion problem i had a few other gripes with the device: - The fabled dynamic Sound Adaptation feature on it simply did not work for my purposes. I bought the device to block out bumps and thuds from my elephant-footed neighbor upstairs and the device simply cannot react fast enough to these noises to drown it out. TBH I cannot see how any device could react this quick, and so the technology is a bit of a gimmick. - I found that i simply did not need this many soundscapes to use. I found for the kind of noise i was trying to block out (low frequency thuds and bangs) the only soundscapes that kinda worked were the train, the fan, and the brown noise. All of the other noises were not much use to me. In fact I found the other noises irritating because they didn't sound particularly natural (e.g. the Meadow sounded like a murky bog from a horror film and the Meditation was just a load of random abrupt noises that would be impossible to meditate to), and even more so with the Enrichment feature on (another gimmick). - The unit emits a great deal of EMF radiation. I certainly would not want this next to me all night. - The power connection seemed very flakey. If i moved the unit when it was on i had to be very careful, as it would lose power when i tried to do so. Maybe a bad power cable?

I wasted years thinking that I didn’t need to resort to ...
I wasted years thinking that I didn’t need to resort to a white noise generator, and that I could just deal with changing my sleep schedule to accommodate neighbour-noise, but I’m glad that I finally bought this one nine months ago. It doesn’t always completely cover unwanted noise, but even when it doesn’t block it entirely, it does take my attention away from those noises that used to keep me from sleeping (loud talking / dogs barking). It creates a blanket of normalized sound, the volume of it rising or falling naturally - it’s never jarring. Considering my comment about how it covers noise, I should mention that I’ve never used the sound machine at maximum volume. It would be too loud for me to sleep through at maximum because I keep the machine right beside my bed, just slightly lower than the level my head rests at. Since the sound comes from the top of the machine, instead of the sides, maximum volume would be too much for me. When I need the brook setting to ease me into sleep, it sounds just like I’m resting beside a real brook, and when it’s about to time out, it reduces its volume gradually until the sound fades away completely and the machine shuts itself off. When I need to use the machine again, it starts out with the same settings I choose for it on last use. The machine seems to have been designed to be stress free, and I really appreciate that. Paradoxically, I’ve also found it useful in helping me to concentrate. When I’m reading, and want to shut out any possible distractions, I use the train setting. It works.

Finally an answer to loud snoring
The only thing that worries me about this machine is that some reviews say it can stop working suddenly after a few months. This machine has been so great, I would hate to have to be without it while a new one was shipped. Hopefully, mine is OK and will work for a very long time. We have been married for 40 years. My husband snored on and off for most of the time. But it was never a real problem and a nudge would get him to turn over and the snoring would stop. However, over the past year, his snoring has gotten very loud and is very constant. He snores every night and a lot of the time it is 'buzz saw' in loudness. Turning and changing position does not do anything to help. He tried the nose strips, but that did no good. It was a difficult situation as although he was the one snoring, it really was my problem as I was the one who could not sleep with the noise. I researched various snoring solutions such as mouth pieces and other devices that might help snoring. But even though he appreciated that I could not sleep, he is not the type to be gung ho about finding a solution or purchasing and trying some of these devices. His basic 'answer' to the problem was that some day his snoring would stop. After a year, I really doubted that was going to happen. I don't think he appreciated how totally his snoring kept me awake with so many totally sleepless nights! He was the snorer, but it became my job to find a way to deal with it. It came to the point that we had to sleep in separate bedrooms most of the time. Our kids are grown, so we did have a couple of empty bedrooms to use. Although I could get a good night's sleep, a separate room was not a comfortable solution overall. Also we travel a lot and have to use the same bed when guests come to our house. So I had to find a way to deal with his snoring when traveling and at home. I researched the white noise and sound machines. This one got such high ratings I figured it was the one to try. From what I had read, I thought the actual 'white noise' would be the best. But I am so glad I bought this one that had many sounds. The machine has done it's job almost from the first night we used it. There was one big adjustment however. The first night I put the machine on my nightstand. It helped somewhat, but since the snorer was on the other side of me, I could still hear him quite a bit. I read about these noise machines and it said to work best, the machine should be between you and the noise. Thankfully this machine is not very large. So I actually placed it on the mattress up against the headboard between my husband and myself. Now the sound is truly between me and the source of the noise. I placed it so the controls are at the top of the machine and I can easily push the buttons to adjust the level of sound. It only takes up a little more than 4 inches of space and on a king size bed, that does not bother us. In testing out the various sounds, I actually found the basic white noise to be rather irritating. I like the rainfall sound the best. I put the richness setting at level one as it adds a little diversity and a rumble of thunder once in a while. I have awakened at night several times to think it was actually raining before I realized it was the machine. I play the machine all night long. I think your mind adjusts better to listening to the sound when it is on all the time. I start out at a minimum level. But when the 'buzz saw' starts, I crank up the sound until it drowns out the snoring. It does take a little adjustment to get used to the rain sound constantly and especially when I have to make it very loud. But the adjustment has been quick and relatively easy and allows me to get a good night's sleep. Part of the problem with the snoring was that it could be extremely loud one minute and moderate the next. The constant change in noise levels really had me edgy and nervous as when the snoring was quiet, I kept mentally waiting for it to get loud again. My nerves were always on edge wondering what level of snoring loudness would be next. With the constant level of the rain fall noise, it helps me to not worry about the level of snoring noise. If the snoring gets loud enough to wake me, I now just amp the rainfall level up a few notches (sometimes more notches than than 'a few') and I can go back to sleep. I read some of the reviews that said the machine was not loud enough. I can't help but agree with other posters that those machines must have a defect of some sort. When I put my machine on the loudest level, it is extremely loud. Even with my buzz saw, I never need to crank it up to the loudest level. I am happy that this machine is small as we will need to take it with us when we travel. I do hope my sleep machine lasts a long time. But whenever it does stop working, I will be getting a new one. It really has been a wonderful device to help with my noise problem. I don't think I really thought it would work as well as it has and solved our situation so easily.
