Fantastic Unit! BLACK+DECKER Portable Air Conditioner, 8,500 BTU
I've been using this AC unit for 3 weeks now and have been very impressed with it. The dehumidify feature is fantastic and the fact the water goes out the exhaust vent instead of needing to be drained regularly is next level. The sleep mode is great and keeps the room temperature perfect throughout the entire night. The window kit fit my window perfectly and I was able to easily get a perfect seal around it on my window which was a huge thing for me with the help of some tape. It is a very powerful unit that easily cools my room without needing to constantly run the compressor. I believe its claim of handling up to 350 square feet easily, it could possibly do more. For my use case I no longer wanted a window unit and this is a perfect alternative. I love that I can select a temp and the unit will maintain the room there on its own. The sound level is comparable to a hotel ac unit its not quiet by any means but its not ridiculously loud either. Similar to a loud box fan but also consistent with no loud rattling. I'm used to sleeping with the white noise so I find it soothing at night. The filters are easy to slide out and clean, I like how they are positioned in the unit they will catch any incoming debris. I saw in some reviews people received theirs with the wheels broken but this was not the case with mine all 4 are intact and working fine. Value for money wise I don't think I could have found a better unit this one is perfect for my use case cooling a bedroom during the summer this thing moves air. Also a tip for anyone using this unit if you're using fan only mode do not use the vent hose, the fan air blows the hardest out of the vent hose port on fan only mode it is an incredibly powerful fan. Another tip is the unit really only needs using on the lower fan speed setting. It is quieter, moves tons of air, more efficient, and in AC mode the air has more time to pass over the cooling services allowing the air to become cooler before exiting the unit. I typically don't write product reviews but I was so impressed by the unit and blown away at the low rating that I had to include my own. I can tell the low 4 star product rating is from the broken wheels mainly and that is an unfortunate flaw for many but it appears to have been fixed on the packaging for the unit now. Black + Decker or Amazon if you want to hook with up with more AC units to test out this summer I'll gladly accept, review, and post videos!

Stopped cooling after 3 months and Black and Decker wonโt respond
At first I thought this was going to be a great little ac unit, it cooled very well. I bought it for my husband to have in his office so that while heโs gaming he can keep the room cold (we live in Florida and do have good ac in our house but in the summer it gets hot plus a large gaming pc ๐ฅต) For about 3 months it worked great then all of a sudden it just didnโt cool anymore. I did all the normal maintenance on it like draining it, checking the filter, etc. to see if those were the issue. All were normal, no excess of water or dust but yet it still wonโt cool. So I put in a ticket with black and decker on May 23rd to which I did get a follow up email quickly asking for pictures and videos of specific things. I sent those to them the same day and I have yet to hear anything else from them. I have sent 2 more emails following up with no response. I do not suggest getting this ac just due to the lack of help from black and decker if you do have an issue.

Cooled better than expected
I was skeptical about getting this A/C. In the description it said it was 8500BTU. But when I got the box it says 5100 BTU. I learned later that there are TWO different BTU standards, so it is actually BOTH. Upon opening the box, I got aggravated when I saw 5100BTU. I had specifically been avoiding 5000BTU units because my room is 315 SqFt, and sits above a hot garage, which is above a 5K BTU unit's normal capabilities. I decided to go ahead and plug it in, thinking I'd probably have to return it. NOT. This unit DELIVERS. It cooled all 315 sq ft down in 15 minutes. Now, it's absolutely not noiseless. But I can live with the noise. I just set the blower on HIGH to cool the room down then put in on LOW to keep the temperature maintained. This unit DELIVERS. Will it cool a room down to 65 degrees? Not sure because I like my rooms in the middle 70's. But my once 84 degree room now sits at a pleasant 75 without the unit continually running. Very pleased.

Easy set up, not the strongest AC
It's not gonna cool a big room, and it will take a while to cool a small room. But it gets the job done, its efficient and not too noisy. The set up is a walk in the park, took us maybe 10 minutes. And it doesnt leak at all which is really nice. We used this everyday of the summer and the drainage tank never got too full (michigan summer, so in a more humid state you might want to check it more frequently, we only had to empty it at the end of the season). The remote works great, the controls are simple, I feel like it was a bit pricey considering how long it takes to cool a normal sized room, but overall it's a nice machine.

great for my emergency and weighs just 50 poiunds
great and much lighter than the previous models of stand up ACs just 50 pounds cane though overnight in an ac emergency kept 2 rooms really cool ( I bought 2)

Major FLAW, But... Great Unit..
The unit itself works great for my small apt. ( 800 sq. ft. studio ... I mean it's COLD in here even with this heat wave of 100 degrees YAAAA!!! ) ..>> BUT.. >> The venting hose to attach to the unit itself and out the window is majorly flawed in that the ends of it DO NOT Securely screw into the hard plastic receptacles ...So I had to duck tape them on..UGH...they SHOULD Have hard plastic screw-ins Attached TO THE HOSE itself as to be able to easily & securely attach them!!! I think it's Dangerous if the hose were to fall off in the middle of the night ALL that exhaust would come into the room... Not OK..They NEED to FIX THIS!! Also it'd be nice if they offered a larger window attachment for a sliding glass door..80-90 inches as sometimes (like in my situation too ) people only have that option. I would have given 5 STARS if it weren't for the hose attachment flaw.

Not So Smart
I picked up the Square BLACK+DECKER Portable Air Conditioner, 5,100 BTU SACC/CEC (8,500 BTU ASHRAE 128) to replace another unit I bought a couple of years ago. The older unit is from an obscure Chinese company that no longer exists. This no-frills B+D square unit looks almost exactly the same but is a little smaller and I'm hoping to will perform better. The on/off temp control range seems to be the same, you have to go 6 degrees above room temp to get the AC to shut off. The new B+D unit puts out a lot of cold air but is noisy making a rattling sound from inside when the ac compressor is on. The 2-speed fan & remote works fine. I'm hoping the water internal evap cooler will be enough to keep the inside water tank from filling up. I will post another review update after summer Update 7/26: So far it's working great, puts out enough cold air to keep my office/game room cool. It does shut off automatically and restarts when the room warms up. Good purchase.

Good portable A/C (Edit: new problem!)
Edit: Well, after writing the review below, I ran into a problem. The A/C just suddenly turns off while it's running in cool mode. (It's not like when it cycles between the compressor and the fan; it just stops running entirely, even though the desired temp is still lit up on the display.) If I hit the on/off button, it makes the two beeps sound that indicates "off" (even though it's not running). I can turn it right back on, and it seems to work, but I can't keep waking up every 20 min to turn it on! Have done all the required trouble-shooting (check the electricity, filters, drain pan, exhaust hose is not kinked, etc) - all fine, and it does it even when it's not particularly hot out. Also does it within 15 minutes of turning it on. I contacted Black & Decker and they are happy to send a replacement -- but that means I have to uninstall this one, pack it up and ship it, and wait up to "7 to 10 days" for a replacement, and then re-install that one. Needless to say, not ideal when it's in the 90s. I asked for a refund instead and they wouldn't give it to me. Really disappointed - and dreading the next few weeks without an a/c! Please fix this, Black & Decker! I'm happy with this purchase. I've never had a portable A/C, but had to buy this because my windows in the place I live now won't open wide enough for a window unit. The A/C was easy to set up and install. I'm pleased that it's a compact size. It cools my room efficiently and quickly. The noise level is absolutely fine and what I would expect - certainly not louder than a window A/C. I really like the fact that when it switches from cooling to fan mode as the room cools, there's not a big "clunk" or other noise (which I have had happen with other A/Cs). Everything feels solid and well-made. Love the fact that I can control it with the remote.

Nice AC unit but window kit is for a sliding window frame.
Love this AC unit (8500 BTU). It's surprisingly efficient. But please take note the window kit IS FOR A SLIDING WINDOW frame, NOT for rolling windows. Otherwise I would've given it a 5 stars rating.
