These are really nice radios. I had difficulty in the programming area, transmit and receive offsets. I also didn't have anyone to contact to help. By the time the company called back, I sent them back. I did later order another one along with a programming cable recommended by an experienced ham operator.

If you're on the fence about getting one just do it. Takes some researching to figure out all the fun tools it has. Only reason why it's not a complete five star is because with the gps it does not track speed even though it has the option to, I haven't been able to get it to work? But altitude and waypoint is accurate and in order to do any Fine-tuning, such as naming your channels, you have to connect it to a computer. It does allow you to do it through the radio, but it will only configure it in Chinese. As far as range goes, it is very good. Been able to reach as far as 8 miles through mountains. Although it should be able to go farther dependent on your channel and terrain.

I have a few off-road vehicles and have a rule to never ride alone. Sometimes you can't help but get separated by the terrain or a wrong turn. We are seldom in a place with cell coverage. These radios work perfectly to stay in touch. The higher UHF frequencies work better if there are obstructions. Honestly, the product is so feature rich I haven't even scratched the surface of what they can do. Battery life is great and each radio has a spare battery. Sometimes I ride with large groups of 10+ vehicles. Because these radios are frequency programmable, you can use them to communicate with all the other recreational radios on the market. Open source software from the internet lets you 'program' channels and features.

Without APRS this would be a 2 star radio and the reality is the APRS is a battle to get working in JUN of 2025. First order had a dud in it that would not TX or RX however the second set was fine. It is very easy to program stations in using the keypad and display. That sounds like a given, but its only recently possible in a radio at any price point and this one is intuitive. Audio sound (to my ear) is great on FM RX and reasonable on AM RX. The display is hard to read in the sun, but you can see it well enough to use the radio and maybe well enough to program a channel if you are already familiar with the menus. RX in general is marginal with a squelch that is too high. Unfortunately adding a better antenna results in worse RX presumably due to the AGC and/or front end design. for 5 stars this needs: -support for a programing SW that allows CVS list imports. 640 channels means nothing if I have to type them all in. -Improved RX design or at least adjustment of squelch set points to allow use with better antennas like the UV5R has in chirp. -Path forward for APRS functionality to everyone. -overall bug work on the firmware. Too many little things are wonky like how NOAA weather alerts behave. Strong points: -Very easy to set up and use with simplex and repeaters -FM audio RX is great -Great battery life and USB-C charging -APRS sorta works now if you are willing to put in a lot of effort. That's impressive at this price and a first for the affordable market.

This is great I live in the middle of the woods so if my kids take off on the atv I can get ahold of them up here are. Ell phones don’t always work so to use this is a game changer. Especially since there are 4 bears who like in my are. A plus. I still need to learn how to use it correctly but I got that covered.

The manual is not for beginners. It is hard to understand. There is no CHIRP software available. The listing says to use Baufeng's software from their site, which I don't trust. One review claimed that the software download is infested with malware. Will not attempt. Don't want to destroy my PC or the radio. Baufeng jumped the gun on releasing this model. With no CHIRP available, there is no reliable way to program this radio. Debating on whether to keep these radios. Also read that this model does not produce 10 watts as stated in more than one review. This could possibly could be due to the antenna. The antennas that came with these devices appear to be about as cheap as they get. I will try a better antenna to see results. Will most likely return. Apparently no OEM extended life batteries. So this particular model appears to be somewhat worthless, also with advertised GPS but no apparent way to access this feature. Just looked at the manual which states in the specs 7 watts max. So either this is the wrong manual or Baufeng is lying about this supposed 10 watt radio. Updating my previous statement in this comment from most likely return to definitely will return. I expected a lot more from Baufeng. Very disappointed.
