So to ensure that we did indeed have an accurate thermometer, my wife and I tested it on ourselves, using a sublingual thermometer. After the temperature registered on the sublingual thermometer, we immediately used this thermometer on ourselves. The picture shows my body temperature comparing a sublingual and this thermometer. My wife's was a different temperature but the readings were identical! I am impressed that it was as accurate as a sublingual thermometer and yet gives you that accuracy at the press of a button (trigger, in this case). My wife was worried that a previous thermometer we bought for our 6 month old son wasn't giving us a proper reading, so to ease her doubts I looked for the #1 rated thermometer and this is it. We tested it and it held up to the testing. I would recommend this to anyone, especially first time parents like ourselves. It is accurate and precise. Both are needed to ensure proper measurement of body temperature and I'm glad our confidence in customer reviews of this device paid off. These thermometers are extremely easy to use and seem accurate. After calibration (yes they should be calibrated), I received accurate readings within seconds and got consistent results over an average of 3 readings. The screen also turns different colors to indicate fever grade if a high temperature is detected. I compared the readings to multiple readings from a hospital grade oral thermometer and received accurate readings to ±0.2°F. There are also settings for ambient temperature and surface temperature that I did not test in depth. Pretty pleased with these.

I work in a Special Needs classroom, and it has always been extremely difficult to get any of our students to allow us to check their temperature when they appear to not be feeling well. The thermometer that our school Nurse uses is the typical under the tongue metal probe with the disposable plastic covering that is ejected into the trash when finished using, and our kids just refuse to let it be put into their mouth. When I use the CocoBear thermometer, I first show the child how it works and shows my "numbers" and then ask if I can check their "numbers". That method has worked well every time I've had to use it. I only gave it 4 stars because it is a little confusing to have to remember to calibrate (and how to do it) the thermometer every time you change a skin tone, which of course is practically every time it is used in our classroom.

I have tested and spent money on far too many thermometers. This was a risk and I have ended up in love! My mother had many heart surgeries, so I ordered this to check her daily for after care. I took her temperature with this thermometer the same time the home nurses used their professional thermometers. They consistently read the same. This gave me faith in my purchase. My first impression was that I received a professionally packaged device. When I opened the box, I was even more pleasantly surprised. Not only was the thermometer exactly as pictured, but included were brand-name batteries and a soft fabric bag for storage or travel. I installed the batteries and immediately was able to take my temperature as well as my wife's temperature. Results were instantaneous and highly accurate. I was not expecting multi modes of operation for BODY, ROOM and SURFACE temperatures. These added features allowed me to ensure that my air conditioner was adequately cooling my house and that my refrigerator was properly cooling its contents. I have begun keeping a daily temperature log for my wife and myself to watch for any early sign of illness like COVID-19. The reasonable cost of the thermometer is an investment in my future health.

Six months ago I purchased this thermometer because the hospital grade under arm thermometers were not working for my wiggly toddler. I tried it out and it seemed accurate, but I hadn't really needed to use it until last month when my son had Roseola. He woke up with a fever and I took his temperature and it was 101. Seemed right. By bedtime and overnight it hit 104 and 105. I called the doctor and took him in right away. They didn't tell me his temperature and I didn't ask, so I don't know what it was there. But at home I was taking his temperature often and the thermometer continued to show around 104 and 105 for a couple days. It may have been that high or may not. I will never know. I did begin to get frustrated with the thermometer though because the temperature seemed to vary by a few degrees if I pointed it in a slightly different spot. I read the directions and tried to point it as close to where they said as possible, but a few degrees difference just by moving it over an inch one way or another didn't seem reliable. On the afternoon of the third day of fevers (when the doctor said his fever would likely break) I noticed he didn't feel as warm and I guessed his fever was breaking. I took his temperature and it read 109.1!!!! What!?! I took it again and it read "HIGH" which means it was above 109.2 according to the manual. Were it not for the fact that he felt cooler than he had I would have COMPLETELY PANICKED and rushed for the ER. I knew it couldn't be right, so I grabbed the under arm thermometer. It was 100 (add a degree 101). My husband stopped by the store right away and bought us a new thermometer and it confirmed that his fevers were going down. I am so, so glad I didn't get this high reading the day before when he felt warmer and even more glad I didn't get it in the middle of the night when his fevers were high and I was already very anxious. My son definitely ran a fever for three days, but now I wonder if it was as high as I thought. Obviously, whenever our kids are sick we worry, but there is a different level of anxiety when it is 101 vs 104. An accurate thermometer is very important and this is NOT it. For what it is worth, while my son was sick my husband and I used this thermometer on ourselves a few times to check for accuracy and each time it was around 98. Even right after it read 109 on my son it said 98 on me. So it seems accurate if your temperature is normal, but what good does that do?
