The best of media player
I have been a long-time user of media players, my wife and I are all retire and watch movies 8-10 hours a day, that is why media player is so important for us, I always have one spare in case of something happens to player. I was start with WD, Sony, Mica and then Kdlinks HD680 and now KDLINKS HD800. I found Kdlinks product have all bell and whistle needs to watch the movies which far better than other media players; Recently I upgrades from Kdlinks HD680 to HD800 because with more and more 4k movies came out and HD680 needed to be replaced as it topped out at 1080p. After a week of using HD800, here are what I am feeling:1) It boots up very quickly.2) It can connect to USB with more than 2TB HD - I am connecting 4TB hard drive to USB3 and don’t had any problems, most of other Media players are limited to 2TB Hard Drive.3) It connects and streams from your home network extremely well.4) It can play 4K movies and all kind of media format, I am using HD800 to play all of my video files in different format and don’t had any problems.5) The remote control is sensitive and control from far distant, we are sitting about 30ft of media player and control HD800 without any problems, most of other media players only can control up to 15 ft and this is one of a reason I have stick with Kdlinks product; Remember HD800 is Android interface and has totally different hardware and built in features, so the remote control may work differently than the old transitional players, meaning you have to spend some time to learn and get familiar with remote control, also the remote is a learning remote, I programmed it to control my TV input, volume and power, that is nice features which most of other media player don’t have it.6) It loaded with Netflix and YouTube which I am using most and I'm sure you can load other media sources, games, etc.7) Customer service or "Kdlinks support team" are very helpful special Eric will answer your emails quickly and to the point. He knows the products inside and out and he will take care all of your questions; most of other seller don’t want to think about customers after they got your money. One downside of Kdlinks product is very poor documentation, most of online customers want to see user manual to find out if it fit for their needs, I can’t find the user manual or picture / information of remote control of HD800 on their website, Kdlinks should get a dedicated webpage and keep docs up to date. In summary, it's not perfect, but it’s fit my needs and far better than other!

Upgrade from HD-700
This is my fourth media player I've used over the years, previously using MICCA, WD, and most recently HD-700. I almost exclusively use this to play downloaded video files from a hard drive. I generally liked the HD-700 despite the frequent lock ups and slow reboots, but lately the box stopped recognizing some newer H.264 files. The HD-800 is a different chipset with an android operating system, so unfortunately I lost these features from the HD-700:1. I ripped my DVD's in raw file format, and the HD-700 played them just like a DVD player. Now I need to convert all of them to a new format.2. I lost features: zoom, slow motion, picture/video preview window, and tagging a section of video for repeat.3. I use a USB hub for multiple external disk drives. The HD-700 would display the disk label, however the HD-800 only displays the drive letter, which are assigned randomly after each power-on.I like the fully functioning Chrome browser with the HD-800, but dislike that the box reconnects WiFi by default upon power-up, when most of the time I don't want it connected. If it can remember my password, why can't it remember the "WiFi off" setting?Overall, it does what I need it to do, just not what I'd like it to do.

The unit does deserve 5 stars
I have several media players so I am quite familiar with them. I can say that this media player from a sole playback of the latest files types and also the latest sound file types is excellent. It is fast. It is powerful. The picture quality and sound quality are excellent. No more I can say.My complaint is the support. They say they will contact you immediately as the customer is their main concern, blah blah blah. Nope. Notta. No way. I have written repeatedly to support and the Seller. They just do not respond. I nearly sent the unit back as it was not working correctly at all. Finally, I figured it out myself. By luck I think. There was time zone issues. Playback issues. Power issues. One by one I figured them out, but support never has responded. Terrible. They say there is a 1 year no questions asked warrantee. Good luck with that.BUT if you want a truly great playback experience, if your box works, this is the unit. If it had 1. Support as they claim. 2. Better software, like a newer version of Android perhaps it would really be an excellent unit. I am giving it 5 stars because that play back it that good. Weird. They build a nice unit and don't support it, but oddly, a few people are contacted. Go figure??...

Buggy even with latest Firmware. No 4K, Does not read folders correctly, Cannot access PlayStore
I will adjust my score when the KDlinks HD800 does what it is suppose to do.Several problems, The box arrived a little damaged which is unusual since it was packed in a large box and was a little dirty, showing that this may have been a used product. The HD800 does not output 4K — I couldn't select it.It also does not read all my folders on my hard drives, and no sub-folders.It cannot access Google — when you click the button to Play Store nothing happens. After accessing WiFi, the browser would not open open any sites, the online button to go anywhere do not do anything. The remote (like so many other of these so-called media players) does not have a fast forward button. At least the remote has a play buttonOn some browser and other screens there are horizontal lines at the top of the screen. It has an older Android, but without being able to go to the PlayStore to download VLC, this product is useless. The firmware says it is the latest, and obviously needs several updates.
