To operate it, you slide a button up one position to activate the flashlight (super bright) and push it up further to activate the stun gun; then you press and hold a separate button to taze someone. When you deploy the button, it makes an incredibly loud sound as the voltage goes through it and the mugger. I have luckily not had to use it on anyone, but the voltage is definitely enough to give a mugger a good shock and the loud buzzing/crackling sound alerts anyone around that a crime is going down. I have it turned on and my hand on it in my pocket when I have to walk in Baltimore City or DC when I occasionally use the metro or go visit my friend there.
