Be careful
I know I purchased a reverb, but I expected the quality to be better even though the price was really goodThe antenna accessory was missing, as well as the instructions for the receiver

Inexpensive, pre outs, works as I wanted it too.
I purchased this receiver for the pre-outs, HDMI switching and the relatively cheap price, I think I paid $289. It works even better than I had hoped as far as passing the HDMI signal straihgt to the TV speakers when the receiver is not turned on, a feature that works great if you have someone who also uses the TV, video, Wii etc and don't ever learn how to make things work. In this case, my wife did not even know we had a receiver. I have not used the amplifier in this receiver, just a old 5 channel amp connected to the pre-outs. It has surpassed my expectations.

Nice receiver, but requires proprietary connector for Bluetooth
I'm quite happy with this receiver except for one glaring complaint: Yamaha requires you to purchase a proprietary cable to connect a Bluetooth device. The manual states "the cable is required [when pairing] for security purposes" (paraphrased). Please. What it really means to say is "the cable is required so we can collect a few bucks when you want to play music from your Droid/iPhone through our receiver". The entire point of Bluetooth is to connect devices together WIRELESSLY and WITHOUT HASSLE. Yamaha has succeeded in obliterating the convenience of Bluetooth in the name of greed. All Bluetooth components are "coded", so "security" has already been achieved through the pairing process.Yamaha, if you're just trying to make a quick $20, just say so... don't insult your customers' intelligence. I have Bluetooth in my car, all over my home, and at work... at no point have I ever needed additional accessories to ensure "security". Give me a break.

Terrible support
The HDMI out to TV never worked right. After owning the receiver for one year, the Hdmi board failed completely. I had to take unit 100 miles away to the only uthoriized service in South Florida. After 10 days, I picked up the system and it was in the same condition. Yamaha has no tech support phone number, the response to emails is weeks of waiting and I still haven't resolved the issue. The unit's features are fine while they work. I will certainly not consider buying another Yamaha.

Great sound, awkward configuration
So, overall I'm really happy with this receiver - it does just about everything they promised it would, and it sounds spectacular combined with the Polk speakers I bought to go with it.But....One of the reasons I bought it was the promise that I could seamlessly connect all my video devices and it would convert them all to HDMI - so that I wouldn't have to set the TV and the amp whenever I wanted to watch something. This turned out to work well for my HDMI cable box and PS3, and for my component output DVD player - but it took most of an afternoon to figure out how to get both a picture AND sound for my daughter's Nintendo Wii. It seems that because of the way the inputs were designed, the picture was on source "AV1" but the sound was on "AUDIO 1".Eventually, I found a loose piece of paper in the box the amp was shipped in telling me that I could use the on-screen set up interface to map the video output from "AV1" to the "AUDIO 1" mode, so now, when my daughter wants to play Wii, she pushes the "AUDIO 1" button....Again, overall the amp is great, but the setup can get convoluted if you want to use it with non-HDMI gear.

Great receiver
I've had this now for one month and have been very pleased. It has 4 HDMI 1.3 inputs so I was able to easily connect my Direct TV DVR, Xbox 360, Panasonic Blu-Ray player and Panasonic DVD/VHS recorder. I'm using it as a preamp so I'm not using the built in amps. I like the HDMI pass through feature so I can watch normal TV with the receiver and sound system turned off and just use the normal TV speakers. You don't really need 7.1 surround sound for watching the news. The sound quality is really super. Very clear and detailed. I've been very pleased with my purchase. Only con is the remote is hard to read and confusing.

not all that easy
This receiver got a lot of features. I was not able to hook up my amplifer. It does have 30 presets for stations but they are all on one control 1-30. You have to go through all the presets to get to the one you want, as on others they have A,B,C,D with about 10 on each. The sound does not go as loud as I would like it to.

Up-do-date, scaleable receiver
I bought a place several months back and decided spending $475 was too much to spend updating my old Bose media center for Blu-Ray and HDMI. This receiver was a nice, cheap solution and it's got a ton of connectivity options. Most importantly, it's got multiple HDMI inputs for my FiOS DVR, Blu-Ray player, HD video camera/DSLR. You could spend a lot more on a receiver, but the average user won't notice significant difference with the sound. If you're planning to go with this receiver for your home entertainment system, I recommend getting a Logitech Harmony One remote to go with it. Monster makes a nice cable management product for keeping cords and cables neat. Regarding speaker wire, HDMI cables, etc., Amazon has great prices--much cheaper than paying thru the nose at the big box stores.
