Review: My Travel Buddy - I purchased this printer when I was going to be on the road for about 3.5 weeks, and needed to be printing lots of documents and shipping labels. I had an older HP mobile printer, which decided one day to stop printing and would not be fixed with any amount of customer service. So, having an excellent experience with my current Canon printer, a Pixma MG8120 (superb product!), I decided to go with Canon instead of HP for my new mobile printer. Also to note: HP ink isn't archival (photos will fade over time), and the black is dye-based, not pigment-based like Canon's black. Pigment won't run like dye would if it gets wet, so Canon has the advantage here. With shipping labels, this is especially important. I was very impressed with the ease of set-up, and the excellent print quality. It also churns out the pages pretty quickly, even at the high-quality setting. I haven't yet printed photos (I use my Pixma for that), but for high-quality color documents and text, it has performed flawlessly. It's very compact also. My one complaint is that you must buy the Canon wireless bluetooth accessory separately, and it costs around $40. So far, I've only used a usb cable to connect to my laptop for this reason, but it's not really a big deal for me. There is also an optional battery which would be useful if you work in the field away from power outlets. Bottom line: this printer is a quality product, perfect for travel, has performed flawlessly for me, and prints great-looking documents. It's my second Canon printer, and I've been 100% satisfied with both. A good buy! Review: Road Warrior Needs a Printer - I travel about 30 out of 52 weeks a year. When I go on vacation, I go nowhere, or within a 2 hour drive by car. Anyway, I travel a lot for the company I work for, and when I visit manufacturing sites, they have a guest internet hook-up, but if I want to print anything, I'm always on the other side of their firewall, so I was having to transfer stuff to a memory stick, then go beg people to print it out. I decided to go shopping for a portable printer, and this one seemed to be getting good reviews. I own a Canon Pixma 9500 Pro, and a Canon Multifunction IP530, and both have performed flawlessly. Because the iP100 was a portable printer, I was concerned about print quality, and robustness of the materials, but so far I am really impressed. I was also concerned about weight, but this thing weighs less than some laptops and more than others. I have a BUILT computer sleeve for my old 13" laptop, and the iP100 slips into it like it was made for it. I throw it into my carry-on roller-bag, then take the printer and my backpack to work with me. Curiously, this Pixma is advertised as a photo printer, but for me, it is a way to printout e-mails, expense reports, etc. As with my other Canon printers, I can set the default print quality as 'Fast' rather than 'Standard" thus saving lots of ink. I just finished two expense reports in my hotel room and printed them out for mailing, so I won't have to bug a fellow employee tomorrow. Negatives - it will only handle legal/letter/A4 (European letter)and smaller - e.g 4 X 6 Photo prints, but nothing larger than the letter/legal. For me, that's ok. I have a few 11 X 17 documents, but in a pinch, I can shrink them to letter/legal size easily. Print speed is about as fast as my $600.00 printer, and the quality is quite impressive as well. This printer is kinda of like finding that rare pair of jeans that fits so well, you don't even want to take them off! It is still new, so no stats to report on ink tanks. Two tanks total - one black, and one a tri-color tank. Canon even throws in a pack of 4 X 6 Glossy print paper. Oh, this printer is AC only, no battery pack, but the transformer will handle foreign currency - just remember to take the right plug adapters. G-Man signing off.
