There are some mixed reviews on how easy this game is to learn, and I think it depends a lot on your experience level (if you’ve played deck-building games or even Plants vs. Zombies, it’ll click faster). Once you understand the mechanics, gameplay is actually pretty easy. For parents who might feel hesitant, I recommend trying the solo version first so you’re not learning under pressure while kids are excited and asking questions. The only part that tripped me up at first was understanding which defenses worked against which zombie attributes, so I made myself a little cheat sheet: Zombie Attributes & What They Mean Timid = easily neutralized or scared off Invisible = can’t be targeted by sight-based weapons Exploding = causes damage if destroyed normally — use indirect defense Climbing = bypasses simple blockades (like haybales/walls) Bulletproof = immune to guns (e.g. shotgun) Flying = bypasses ground defenses (like walls, booby traps) Fireproof = immune to fire (e.g. flamethrower) Weapons & What They Work Against Shotgun + Ammo → Timid, Climbing, Flying, Fireproof (❌ not vs Invisible, Bulletproof, Exploding) Flamethrower + Fuel → Timid, Exploding, Climbing, Bulletproof, Flying (❌ not vs Invisible, Fireproof) Booby Trap → Timid, Invisible, Exploding, Bulletproof, Fireproof (❌ not vs Climbing, Flying) Shield → Blocks one attack (works against all) Haybale x 3/Wall → Timid, Invisible, Bulletproof, Fireproof (❌ not vs Exploding, Climbing, Flying) Scarecrow → Timid, Invisible, Bulletproof, Fireproof (❌ not vs Exploding, Climbing, Flying) WOLR (Weapon of Last Resort) → Works against everything Once that clicked, the game became much more fun and strategic. Overall, it’s a quirky, creative card game that’s worth sticking with past the learning curve! Let's put it this way, it's inexpensive, doesn't take up much shelf space and both my 16 and 10-year-olds love it.

We purchased "Zombie Chickens" to add to our growing collection of games by Sweet Bros. Our family loves game nights and this game has been a huge hit! We love how this game combines strategy with a fun theme, suitable for players of all ages. First off, the ease of learning the game is a big plus. The rules are straightforward, which meant we could jump right into playing without spending too much time on instructions. This is great for families with younger children, a mix of ages, or all adults. The versatility of "Zombie Chickens" is a standout feature. Whether you're in the mood for a solo challenge, a competitive face-off, or a cooperative experience, this game has you covered. Each game mode offers a distinct experience, keeping the game fresh and engaging no matter how often you play. The art design and theme are really well done. The zombie chicken concept is unique and executed with a perfect balance of humor and style. Playing "Zombie Chickens" encourages strategic thinking, but it’s also packed with moments of unexpected fun and laughter. We’ve already recommended it to friends and family. "Zombie Chickens" is a must-have for anyone looking for a family-friendly strategy game that's easy to learn, fun to play, and offers a variety of gameplay options.

The artwork and unique take on the Zombie-them is is a selling point. The rules will take some getting used to at first as they are a bit unique with Day and Night actions. You might need to make your own ‘tracker’ to literally keep track of which phase you’re in. But after a couple plays you know what to do and when. Note that the publisher has a downloadable Day / Night Tracker pdf at their web site sweetbrosgames “Here’s a printable pdf to track your terrorizing fight for survival in style! Print the pages and use a coin or other token to track your progress through the game.” Solo rules are included. (As are Co-operative and Competitive). I altered the solo play area, daytime & nighttime and turn tracking to my liking. I can do that rather well with card and/or dice games. That it’s a sign of solid mechanisms in the rules as written. The only thing is that there’s more cards for certain types of defenses like Hay Bales and Ammo that work better at player counts higher than one or two. Meaning at lower player counts they might come up too often since you can only put so many cards into your defense area. So taking some out after a few games seems to be a reasonable houserule. I haven’t determined how many yet. The game can be more difficult to win that it appears because it’s based on chicken attack & defenses using Keywords. Certain ones can get past or are immune to certain defense cards. The result is there’s decision-making involved with which cards to place into you daytime farm defenses. More than you would think. The box is solid and very nice. The cards fit well inside a two section plastic insert. The card stock is slick and will hold up well.
