I used glass weights to keep the veggies below the brine line. Wish I could eat fermented foods …such is life! LOL

**Q: Will these work for making kefir?**
A: If making Kefir requires a fermentation process, and the vessel you make it in fits the silicone top the. Yes, it will work fine. I’ve started putting mine in the dishwasher( top rack only) to. Lean them before using them. Pretty good product.

**Q: Does  this stay on securely enough that I could shake a drink with ice in a mason jar using this lid?**
A: I just tried it! I filled the quart jar 1/2 full of ice, filled it to the neck with water, put the lid on and shook it over the sink briskly. It worked fine, but I would use caution still. Mine are new as well so I'm not sure about it over time. My kim chi loves them...

**Q: Can these be used for sous vide?**
A: I don’t know.  I use for sourkraut

**Q: Can these lids be used in F2 when making Kombucha?**
A: Yes if it’s the same size container. Events fermentation, gases well.

These venting lids work just fine and are easy to use and clean. Then I found out fermented foods have high tyramine and happen to make me sick (joint pain and migraines)!!!. Who knew?! Bought these as they were one of the ones recommended by a fermenting pro as being safe and easy to use. Make sure you read the instructions on the box for using them though. I automatically assumed that they 'auto-vent' when the pressure builds up. Discovered one morning that the kimchi I had fermenting had lifted the lid and there was kimchi juice all over the table. Must have been quite a show! THEN I read the box and realized that you are supposed to press down on the middle of the lid once the fermenting starts once or twice a day (or whenever you see it starting to bulge) and THAT is what releases the gases. Lesson learned. But sure proved to me that these lids seal on the jars pretty darn well! Very happy with them.
