Are wall studs and anchors required to install cleats?

No. But as with any project, we recommend maximizing wall and hardware support. The holes on Flare cleats help you to install in wall studs whenever possible. If studs are not an option, you can use the provided wall anchors or any of your choice.

Which wall types are cleats compatible with?

French cleats’ wall compatibility depends on the mounting hardware, i.e., installation screws. The screws included are compatible with drywall, but you can use hardware for other surfaces. We recommend #8 x 1” screws for most installations

The cleats are thin and don’t seem sturdy. How can they carry 90 lbs?

Our French cleats are engineered with aircraft-grade aluminum and tested for shear strength. Measure your item and select a cleat compatible in length and capacity. A cleat must span at least 50% of a frame’s width to ensure proper support.

Which cleat profile is the best for hanging pictures?

All our cleat types are designed for horizontal frame support and easy leveling. If you are hanging a metal frame, compatibility is limited to Light Cleats only.

Can I hang any type of mirror with the 18-inch Flare Cleats?

Most mirror styles would be compatible so long as they are built on a wood frame, have a flat base, are no wider than 36 inches, and no heavier than 90 lbs
