1950s design and all the better for that
This steamer is so obviously a old-school design - as well as how it looks there are no options other than a rotary switch to set the clockwork timer from zero to 60 minutes, two indicator lights which appear to be filament rather than LED, a tick-tick while the timer runs out and "ping!" when it completes - that it might come across as being crude. That could not be further from the truth - it is very cleverly and subtly designed. The three bins to hold food are of just the right type of clear plastic - hard but not brittle - and there is a lid with plastic knob and a white vessel for holding rice which goes in one of the bins if required. No metal or glass, which would become too hot to touch quickly, and all you do is fill the base with water, put a shaped cover on top of it (which stops the base becoming stained with runoff from what is being cooked) then one, two or three bins with raw food inside as needed, then the lid. After you turn the timer to the desired duration the heater starts; after about two minutes the water in the base is boiling and the whole setup can be left to do its cooking. There is some steam vented - some has to be, otherwise too much would condense inside the bins and fall back onto the food, making it soggy - but that is manageable. The end results are great and a dedicated steamer is clearly the way as I have had good and bad results, mostly bad, with contraptions fitting over pans and similar. This method is 100 per cent reliable and reproducible. The manual to the point and gives cooking times for a large variety of vegetables, in particular, which turn out to be about right in practice. (The going rate is 15-25 minutes). Best are mushrooms, of all things, which are perfect after 10 minutes. Cleaning is easy - simply put all the removable parts into the sink and empty the base of remaining water. It holds a litre of water and I would say that half of that remains after half an hour, so the 60-minute timer is spot on. The only minor issue, which is unavoidable, is that the whole thing is pretty big, even when the three bins are fitted inside each other for storage. That can be done by reversing their order. This is a great device. ยฃ40 might seem a lot, but you can pay much more than that without really trying for a steamer which would only really add bells and whistles.

Works a treat, boils it's heart out and cooks completely
Bought from Amazon Warehouse and decided to try a new brand as I got a shock off of the Russell Hobbs and the Salter stopped f;unctioning properly before six months were up. So far, so good. It steams beautifully, came well boxed and sealed. We'll see how long this lasts. Negatives: tiered shelves for the top. I hate this as I don't use them the way they say to use them. Also, waiting to see how long the bottoms stay connected to the sides which is always the defect with these. We'll see.

Great steamer.
More than happy so far. Forgot how great a steamer is for vegetables. This one is smaller than my previous one but ok for two possibly three people. There is a specific way it goes together but once you do itโs a great steamer. The flex as per all modern electrics is a bit short. Overall so far it has done a great job.

That it lasts for a long time when you use it nearly every day
Iv used and been through a lot of steamers in the past but this one beats all of them so far . Had it for ages and we have a lot of hard water in our area . Cleans well and is very sturdy. Iv had no issues with the steaming of food and I use it all the time .
