Ideal for shaded and damp garden areas, it thrives where many plants struggle, creating stunning rosettes of drooping fronds. Supplied in a 9cm pot, this easy-to-grow fern is perfect for borders, woodland gardens, or pond edges, especially when planted in groups for maximum visual impact. ## Description A stunning variety of fern, it’s easy to see why this fern holds an RHS Award of Garden Merit! Handsome, upright fronds of up to 1.5m (59"), with gently drooping tips give Matteuccia struthiopteris its common name of Shuttlecock Fern. This brilliant outdoor garden perennial forms a large rosette of foliage that makes for a spectacular display in spring as the new fronds begin to unfurl. A superb plant for damp, shaded borders, woodland gardens or when planted in the moist soil at the edge of ponds. Matteuccia fern is at its best when planted in large colonies for maximum impact! It really is a brilliant addition to gardens where sun light may be limited and soils may be a little damper than the usual.Plant Ferns in a sheltered spot. Choose a position in dappled shade on fertile, moist, acid or neutral soil. Matteuccia ferns prefer a soil that is rich in organic matter so add some well-rotted manure or garden compost to the soil prior to planting. Feed and water ferns regularly until they are fully established, applying a mulch of well-rotted manure or garden compost around the crown of each plant during spring.Position: Full/Partial ShadeHeight: Up to 1.5m when fully establishedSpread: Up to 1m when fully establishedSupplied as 1 x Matteuccia struthiopteris (Shuttlecock Fern) in a 9cm PotImages shown are for guidance only of the expected results from plants upon maturity.
