They're only on for 1-2 hours, 6-7 times per month so battery life shouldn't be a problem. I did, however, look for a set taking AA batteries because these last much longer than AAA. Several other sets I looked at were AAA which would be more costly to run. Only used them once but they seem good. I don't need the remote - you can cycle them through the different phases using the on/off switch on the battery box. For maximum relaxation I would recommend permanently on or slow fade up and down. Haven't had them long enough to really judge battery life so I'll try to come back to this review after a month or two. 29 December 2018 - Update: the first set of batteries have been lasting well - something like 6 x 2 hour sessions in the hot tub up to yesterday. Then, last night I forgot to turn them off, and they're still going strong this morning. So, my conclusion is that you shoud expect to get at least 20 hours out of a set of AA batteries (I'm using the batteries from a well known Scandinavian flat-pack furniture supplier). I use the lights in 'always on' mode, so I guess if you like them flashing you'd get even longer. I think this is very good for battery-powered lights.
