An amazing upgrade that sets a high bar for cleaning robots at this price point...
We purchased the Narwal Freo Z Ultra to replace our iRobot i7 on the main floor of our house (1700 sqft). This floor is mostly LPV with a few rugs here and there. I had very low expectations for the quality of the mopping, so we were hoping to get at least the same performance from this device as the i7 when it came to vacuuming and keeping the dog hair and dirt to a minimum between cleanings. We were pleasantly surprised to find out that it did that and more. Setup was easy, and the base station was obviously well thought out. I had some issues defining the rooms I wanted, as our space is very open and rooms are often delimited by furniture rather than walls. But the app has a number of different ways to work around that using no-go zones and manual mapping options. The device and base station have a modularity to them that's similar to the iRobot products, so it is easy to replenish and replace accessories and parts, either on their OEM site or here on Amazon. The capabilities can even be upgraded by installing an alternate detergent reservoir for spot cleaning solution, or even an automatic fresh and waste water management system. Scheduling and job monitoring are easy to use, but we struggle with some base station issues that are not clearly pushed to the app. For example, you currently do not get notified when the base station has run out of fresh water or if the wastewater is full. You are simply notified that a scheduled job cannot start, and usually it's not until the job has timed out and has been cancelled for being paused for too long. There are rumblings that this will be fixed in future app updates, but we've just got into the habit of checking water levels on a regular basis. Our i7 has officially been demoted to basement duty, and it's most likely that when the next major part needs replacing on it we'll probably replace it with another Narwal (It's on its last legs due to a deep clean and refit after an unfortunate run-in with a dog mess). Speaking of cleanup, the device is as easy to keep clean as our i7, but don't forget to pull out the mop head cleaning tray and clean on a regular basis. It does such a good job mopping that this tray gets really dirty and full of material (especially pet hair). We forgot to clean it after a month of daily mopping jobs and it needed it. Pros: - Great app, easy to set up - Mopping function is as good as vacuuming - Lots of options for replacement parts and enhancements - Quiet (compared to i7, even when set on enhanced suction) - Easy to clean - Doesn't just avoid obstacles, it maps them and has pictures - Cool security roaming mode that sends pictures of waypoints to the app - Object avoidance is more sophisticated, so it's gentler on our house Cons: - Base station notifications are limited, and you often miss them unless you are standing next to it - OEM replacement parts are available, but seem expensive - Room mapping in the app can be tricky to get right in open areas

Decent vacuum/mop just wish it wasn't so expensive
**Update: It's been nearly a year and unfortunately the base station and robot had issues with the charging connection. I followed the recommended steps to troubleshoot but ultimately had to send in the whole unit for warranty repairs. They sent back the base station and robot about a week later but when I opened the box the vacuum was now broken, the power cord was missing and the base station was not the one I sent back. The whole base station smells horrible and has water left in both tanks, what looks like mold growing in some spots and has multiple scratches as well as stickers left on. While the company has been willing to repair/replace the robot for the damage while in their hands (or in transit) they have refused to take back and replace the base station with a clean one at the very least. I have been arguing eith them for over a week now to fix this and their only reply is to send me a free bottle of the cleaner for the robot as well as 2 dust bags and 1 mop pad. I am to the point of not wanting to ever purchase or recommend this company or any of it's products. **Update: It's been about 6 or 7 weeks now and the vacuum won't start. I keep getting an error code 1019 but the app does not explain what it means. Google helped but after rebooting it 2x and completely cleaning the base and the vacuum as well as replacing some parts just to be safe it still won't start. I called support and had to leave a message so I will update my review depending on what support does and how soon they call back.** **Update 1.5: Support called back the next morning and immediately took all the information needed and will get tech support to contact me in 24 hours. That being said, the vacuum started it's scheduled task this morning with no issues but of course did not do 2 scheduled tasks last night due to the error so hopefully tech can figure out what is going on.** **Update 2: tech got back that it was a known issue they were working on and I haven't had any further issues so seems to have been fixed. The baseboard attachment did break off the other night and based on where it was found, it seems to have been caught on my stair spindles. I couldn't find it online as an option to purchase a replacement but support responded to my email inquiry quickly and is sending a replacement.** I have had this for 2 weeks now and am ultimately glad I pulled the trigger and bought this though the price (even at $400 off) was a hard pill to swallow. To start, mapping was fairly quick and easy and it isn't hard to add rooms later if needed. I had it map just the main living areas at first, blocking the bedrooms, bathrooms, laundry room, etc. at first. It did notice the mudroom was more dirty on its very first cleaning mission and it went back for a second pass after it emptied it's collection from the first. It doesn't get as close to the corners as I would like but then again it is rounded. I also have a lot of angles that would be difficult even if it was square so it's not a deal breaker. I've had a few of my small rugs stop it up occasionally (it was very easy to pick up the vacuum to "untangle" it) so I bought rug tape to stop that from happening. The rugs amd carpets have not gotten wet from the mop pads even when running vaccum and mop simultaneously as the vacuum recognizes the different flooring. The app needs to allow for angles as I have a large shag rug I can't label as "no go" due to the angle it is at (corner fireplace and the rug is parallel with it). Fortunately the vacuum notices it's there and that it is too thick for it so it goes around it and the app does allow for me to label that rug to go around and not go over. The baseboard attachment works great for my cabinets toe-kick but is not large enough for my larger baseboards. We have 2 females in this house so lots of hair and when I finally added the bedroom with the most hair to the mapping (teen girl), it would roll up the hair as it vacuumed but would leave them in piles around the carpet; it did this the first 3 or 4 times vacuuming that room but the most recent time there were no hair balls so I guess the carpet just had too much hair as I know it wasn't vacuumed regularly. I did have it vacuum that room 2x immediatelyafter it first mapped it knowing it needed it but didn't think to increase the suction power so I will update the schedule for that room to increase the suction going forward just incase. At least the hair was in balls you could easily grab 🙃 and after looking at the brushes (and cleaning the zero-tangling floating brush that is purple in the picture) nothing was tangled around them so it must have just been the large amount of hair that has been brushed out over the past few weeks without vacuuming. I have noticed the vacuum runs out of water for large areas but kept mopping with dry pads as I saw no water residue at all; it eventually went back for a refill but it made several dry passes. I don't usually have it do that large room all at once and break it up in zones due to how big it is (living, dining and kitchen open concept). When it mops, it dries fairly quickly and doesn't leave a sticky residue once dry. I have a combination of engineered hardwood, carpet, tile and vinyl with rugs spread out on the hard floors in certain areas. I love being able to set different cleaning schedules and cleaning functions for the areas in our home. After running it daily for 2 weeks now with slowly increasing the rooms to include I am happy overall. I have to empty the dirty water usually every day as well as refill the clean tank but that is due to vacuuming and mopping nearly 2800 sqft daily (I still have one room and bathroom to add to the map). The dirty water tank has definitely been more clear as the days have gone so that I will be reducing the mopping down to just certain areas daily or as needed and just run the vacuum daily and the mop maybe every 3 or 4 days for the rest of the house. I did have to manually empty the dust collecting bag looking for a toy (spoiler: it wasn't in there) and was shocked at how much dust, dirt and hair was in there so it has been doing a great job getting my floor cleaned. One fairly important issue for me was the vacuum going over a floor outlet. It is raised slightly compared to the engineered hardwood and I have child safe plugs in it. After a few days of going over the area for vacuuming and mopping, the vacuum eventually was able to pull one of the plugs out so I've made that a "no go" zone on the app and will just manually clean around it. The few times that the vacuum had issues and was stuck (on rugs or a floor vent), it was very easy to find due to the app and even the camera feature as I could see what was in front of it and know where it was at. The app tells me nearly everything that is wrong or what needs attention except for when the clean water is out, then it only tells me it is paused. The base announces that the clean water tank is empty but for some reason the app doesn't and I am of course not always near the base to hear it so the app needs an update to send me notices about the clean water tank as well. Overall, it has been a life saver for me and my household schedules. Hopefully it keeps working great.

Worst tech decision till date..
This turned out to be the worst tech buy till date. The unit malfunctioned 3 times in the last 2 years of its possession. First failure: occurred in the base station within a year, for the dreaded 2007 pump error, where the base station failing to supply clean water despite the tank being full. After a series of troubleshooting steps, I was asked to send the unit in for repair. No replacement unit was sent in return as an interim which left me without a vacuum for 30 days. I brushed off this issue as my sheer bad luck to have got a bad unit. Second failure: occurred within 5 months of receiving the replacement unit for the exact same issue. This time since it was out of warranty, I was asked to pay for shipping and the labor cost. At that moment Narwal felt like a crappy product as how can I be that unfortunate to have received a brand new replacement unit that goes bad so soon. I was 100% convinced as a few of my friends who had purchased the same brand experienced the same issues (luckily they got their from Costco so they returned and got their money back). Well needless to say, I wrote a bad review on Amazon, only to be contacted by Narwal support asking me to delete the review, in exchange of refund the fixing cost, and a few extra accessories. Lesson learnt, I should not have done that, as the fixed unit I received thereafter developed another snag last week… Third failure: this occurred last week and within 4 months of receiving the fixed unit. This time it’s the 2006 base station overflow error. To add to that the vaccum’s headlight doesn’t turn on in the dark anymore resulting in the vacuum doing random cleaning and bumping into furniture. This time around I am getting ghosted by Narwal support with no response after multiple follow-ups. PS: Between the 2nd and third failures I made a foolhardy decision to get the Narwal Flow. Thankfully had enough sense to get it from Costco. Lo and behold that unit also developed snag around navigation within a week. I promptly returned and got my money back. Moral: Avoid this company like the plague. It most unfortunate that iRobot went down as the J9+ combo never died on me.

do the work perfectly
The Narwal Z Ultra has completely exceeded my expectations. The cleaning performance is outstanding it picks up dust, hair, and debris effortlessly, and the mopping function leaves my floors looking freshly cleaned every time. The navigation is smart and efficient, and it’s surprisingly quiet for such a powerful machine. What truly makes this product stand out is the customer service. Every time I’ve reached out with a question, the response has been quick, impeccable, and crystal clear. It’s rare to see a company that supports its customers this well. Overall, the Narwal Z Ultra is an awesome robot vacuum that delivers on every promise. Highly recommended!
