Drainage is not optimal for indoor use.
It’s a nice sturdy construction, and also lightweight. There are four drainage holes in the top insert, and also four drainage holes in the very bottom. The top insert where your plants go is about 13 inches deep. So there’s about 14 1/2 inches of open cavity between the insert in the bottom of the unit. The item comes with four plugs for you to use to stop water from running if you want to use this indoors. If this were outside, no issue, but you have to decide if you want to use the four stoppers on the insert or in the unit at the bottom. I wish they had eight. I plan on using it inside my house, and I want to make sure there are no leaks. Also, I bought the white unit and you should know that the finish is matte and is not shiny. Again, it’s great for outdoors, but I planned on this being an indoor unit, and I wish there were a little bit more sheen. It’s definitely a great unit for outside, but given that I’m planning on using it on the inside of the house, I need to rethink how to ensure no water will leak if one of the included plugs leaks.

Perfect planter for our needs but mixed bag design
First let me say our Veradek planter arrived early and was in perfect condition. Was as described and appeared to strongly built-we’ve tested ours and it has proved to be tough. We wanted a long flower box to stand just below the railing of our deck so that planted flowers would extend above the rail but not so high as to block our view. PERFECT height and not so long that it took up to much space. Very pleased. Now for the design. It’s 30” high and only the planter to holds dirt so it’s quite top heavy. There’s no flange at the bottom to stabilize so the first 30 mph wind blew it over. No damage but a mess. I put rocks in the bottom but then a 60-70 mph wind (no exaggeration-severe weather) blew it over again. No damage. I told you it was tough. In truth it blew slats out of the neighbor’s fence. No freestanding planter would have stood. This brings the second design concern. The planter insert must be 15” deep. This means a lot of potting soil and it’s very heavy when wet. I would have thought 10” would have been adequate for our needs and it would be less top heavy. The planter insert fits almost seamlessly into the base and there are no finger grooves or flanges for lifting. When full, I can’t get the insert out without a prying tool and it’s almost impossible to lower back in without pinching fingers on the sharp edges. Veradek should mold some gripping areas into their design. But an easy cure. See picture. Drilled a couple of holes and put rope lifting handles on each side. Dirt and flowers cover the rope so it’s not visible. Just not reasonable to think one will never have to remove the insert to change flowers now and then and it’s really hard to do. Back to the bottom line. I’d recommend this item. Perfect for our needs and has demonstrated its toughness. We really like having the flowers. If it isn’t an indoor installation, will need to be weighted at the bottom. If hurricane strength winds like we experienced are common maybe you don’t need a deck planter. Lifting handles would be nice, but are easy to make
